You have two sizes of piano hinge in your finish kit; the widest (when opened) one attaches around the circumference of the cowl halves at the firewall. This hinge also uses a heavy duty stainless steel pin. The smaller hinge attaches horizontally and uses a carbon steel pin, which in my case was already installed in the hinge. In my case, the wider hinges had regualr carbon steel pins installed and I had to remove these and install the seperately supplied stainless pins. Of course, when I say the wider hinge installs around the circumference of the cowl, I don't mean all in one piece, but in segments, per the drawing. Don't know what the "1/8" references. I had some similar problems when I put my cowling together. The lower hinges (down both sides and the two along the bottom) all use "full size 1/8" pins". The upper cowling uses a smaller diameter pin instead of the full size pin . The reason for this is you have to use a smaller dia. pin to go around the curvature of the cowling. The actual dia. of the top cowling pin is .089" and the lower cowing pin is .117" (1/8"). On the upper pins, I put a 90 deg.bend of about 1-1/2" at the end that you will have to hold on to when placing and removing them. I also floxed the hinges in addition to riveting to keep things neat from shaking about. I did this to the lower hinges in addition to the upper ones. I think I have pix of them on my web site if you want to look. www.websites.expercraft.com/jimn Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message rv9-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/RV9-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/rv9-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/rv9-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
