RVSouthEast-List Usage Guidelines
******************************************************************************
The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the RVSouthEast-List.
You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein.
Failure to use the RVSouthEast-List in the manner described below may result
in the removal of the subscribers from the List.
RVSouthEast-List Policy Statement
The purpose of the RVSouthEast-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established:
- Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit
posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.
- THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be
relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it.
- Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive
that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and
terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and
responses.
- Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address,
aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line
about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid
bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary
space in the archive.
- DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is
easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the
web page or FAQ first.
- If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of
your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it
easy to find threads in the archive.
- When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your
response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the
reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that
quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive
can not be overstated!
- When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT
then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the
"reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your
response to the original poster. You might have to actively address
your response with the original poster's email address.
- DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something
to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I
agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent
to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large.
- When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to
comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly
contribute something valuable.
- Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone
polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack
other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously
controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that
will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing.

List:
My son Chris (19) and I flew the 8A and met up with Stormy and his son
Andrew (16) on Wednesday for the trip to Oshkosh. Weather was great
for the trip up. We made a fuel stop in Dayton, Ohio at Wright
Brothers then another stop at Plymouth, Indiana to meet up with Popeye
from the Ohio RVators. We made a 3 ship for the 1 1/2 hours flight
around the city of Chicago along the lakeshore ... beautiful !! On a
sad note ... Meigs Field runway is completely destroyed and removed ...
boycott everything Daly !!
No problems on arrival into Oshkosh. We camped and parked in the RV lot
... many many RVs there. Airshows were great as usual. The jet powered
Waco was great. The 2 P-51 aerobatic team was unbelievable. They had a
Pitts doing some of the most amazing low level stuff I have ever seen
... hanging on the prop 20 feet off the ground with no forward movement
.... flying down the runway just 10' off the ground sideways .... just
fabulous!!!
The booths seemed to be filled with all sorts of computer related stuff
for the panel. Looked at some of the new engines being developed ... I
must be missing something here because they are more expensive and burn
more fuel for the same horsepower ???
Departed for home on Saturday ... flew back across the shoreline of
Chicago only to get into some of the worst weather I have ever flown in
.... scarry !!! We landed at Gary, Indiana and waited several hours for
some improvement. Then got as far as Dayton and had to spend the night
because of weather. It was not looking good for getting across the
moutains but with an RV .... almost anything is possible !! We got up
Sunday morning with things much improved ... blasted off for the two
hour flight home at 9500'.
Really enjoyed the flying time with my son and Stormy and Andrew. Hope
more of SERV will go next year !!
Happy flying .... see everyone at Dean Meylors on Sunday !!!

Len, Thanks for the update on your trip to Oshkosh, Sorry we couldn't join
you! Your's was a positive post compared to the yahoo group posts I've been
reading about the show being too big and not paying attention to the
homebuilt group, read RV's. It was and is pretty sad to see all the EAA
coverage of the FORD cars and other photographers taking pictures of each
other and various other non aviation related pictures on the main web site
as well as airshow entertainment directed at the masses instead of aviation
related themes....NOT sure it has changed that much in the last 20 yrs or so
I've been going....I remember they used to give fuel to the warbirds to have
them fly in......but not to homebuilts! and one year I went with Bill
Hinckley in his long-ez,we parked on the flight line to display his Long-ez
homebuilt...the morning we left, we had to pay the fee to access the
flightline area just to gain access to the plane to leave! So we may think
things are changing but they probably are not really! Also I used to buy
the Video of Oshkosh each year until I noticed half the film was the same
clips used year after year with just the new highlights added to be able to
label it the "new" years video. We all want the EAA to be just for "us" but
in reality, as in my business too....me have to make a profit to stay in
business!
I'm looking forward to Stormys story.....
Again, sorry I missed it this year, going with you guys would have been a
hoot!

Please join us next year ... I know Larry Bowen will be flying and going with
us !!!
My biggest complaint about the show and EAA has to do with vendor pricing.
They really gouge for the food. My son and I had a chicken finger basket for
dinner the first night at one of the vendor tents. 3 tenders with fries and we
each had a coke. Total $22.00
Now if it were some type of gourmet food but it is past outrageous ...
Ford is a major sponsor ... sometimes nice to see the Ford GT racing a plane,
or my son loved seeing the new Mustang. Cars at an airshow are not for me
but I don't have to pay for them .... I do have to eat. We walked off the
grounds for dinner one night to a steak house and ate cheaper than chicken fingers
on the grounds ... something is wrong !!

Subject: | FBO Service In Dayton, Ohio |
--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: Lenleg@aol.com
Guys:
Just wanted to let you know about some of the best service I have ever had
from an FBO ... Commander Aero at Dayton Wright Brothers. We landed at MGY on
Saturday on our trip back from Oshkosh to get fuel and check weather.
Billy Sexton and Bryan Thompson from line service could not have been nicer.
These guys went far beyond the call with their service. When weather
dictated we could go no further ... Bryan was on the phone to the hotels getting
rates and availability for us ... arranging transportation ... checking for hanger
space for our planes (even though we had not even asked for it yet). We
received a fuel discount for AOPA membership.
If you are planning a stop anywhere in the Dayton area ... you want find a
better FBO.

Len,
I would like to offer an alternative to your Oshkosh camping. My trip
partner and I stayed at Marian College in Fon-Du-Lac, in one of their dorm
rooms. The rooms themselves are great, the drive is about 15-20 minutes to
the field every day, and in the evening, you are away from most of the
Oshkosh crunch, and able to enjoy some of the truly great restaurants and
supper clubs surrounding Lake Winnebego. I would highly reccomend it. I
mean, if you are going to spend that kind of money for supper, you might as
well have grilled salmon with a baked potato instead of three chicken strips
& a Coke. Let's try to get a good SERV group together for next year, okay?
