Just spoke with Dennis, who is finishing up inprocessing at Goldsboro, and then plans to go flying this evening down to Kinston for gas and then just checking out the area. If any of you are flying tomorrow and want to meet him somewhere on the east side of North Carolina, give him a call at 252-916-8178 on his cell phone. We bought a home in Winterville, NC, just south of Greenville, and should have plenty of guest rooms and lots of space to host a gathering as soon as we get settled. We are about 3 miles from N08 (Farmville's grass strip), and Dennis has the RV-6A under a shed there for now. We'll either build a hangar there or move it to Kinston. We found a developer who is interested in building a T-hangar for us in Kinston (8 planes), so if anyone is interested in hangaring there, please let me know. He'd like 4 commitments before building, and says he can have it built in about 6 weeks. I can't wait to get active in the local area--please just give us a month or two to move into the house, and then expect to see us around quite a bit! On Monday I ordered the fuselage kit for the -9 I'm building and now is the time to start dreaming about the instrument panel. Could y'all take a look at the instrument panel "straw dog" on my web site and give me your $.02 worth? My -9 will be a tip-up with the the section panel so access behind the panel should be easy. I'll probably use rocker switches and place the circuit breakers directly below each switch. It is my understanding that I can't place an automotive CD/DVD player in the instrument panel due to interference problems but I can use a remote mount unit, so that's probably what I will do. As you look at the panel, remember, this will be a simple VFR plane. Question number two, have any of you ever rebuilt a Lycoming before? I have a really nice, low time (750TT) O-290 in my basement that I'm about ready to crack open, any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, the web site is www.repucci.com/bill/baf.html Thanks for the help, Bill ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 05:01:28 PM PST US From: "Steve Glasgow" Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: A little help please --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Steve Glasgow" I have a 296 and it is the best addition a pilot could have, absolutely awesome. You can drop the back up compass because the 296 converts track to MH. I had one and just took it out. Never could get it within 20 degrees of actual. To do over, and I guess I could just too lazy, I wouldn't install a 'map box'. Our panel started fairly simple and now we are to the point we don't have room for anything else. Have you looked at the Raven System from Anywheremap. $3800 for the full blown system with Weather and Approach plates but even if you are just flying VFR the Nexrad is a nice feature. I am looking at it for my 7A.
