He may be wrong but who knows. The guy is VERY knowledgeable but there is a chance he could be wrong. For a "hobby" he buys airplane plans and analysis them for week points in the structure then compares his findings to the NTSB records so see if they match up. The funny part is, he isn't a geek, just a down to earth type of guy who LOVES airplanes, all airplanes. He once commented to me that Van was the 2nd best aircraft designer, the first being Taylor. Back when I was looking to buy my '41 T-Craft I found out that there has never been an AD issued on the airframe, only on the engines and switch gear, etc. That is an envious record for any designer. He made that comment when I told him I wasn't going to buy another T-Craft but build an RV-9. His other comments were along the line of, if you are going to build a safe kit, any of the RV's are the way to go. Anyway, he is in the process of developing his own EFIS and expect them to go cheep, if he puts them in production. Knowing him like I do, I would trust anything he designs.
