Radomir: I'm armchair quarterbacking here, from the pix you posted, but I think
I'd seriously consider drilling yout that outboard rib for replacement with
a new one, and tweaking the rear spar back into shape with brute force and hand
tools... since it's the outboard end of the wing, the forces there are very
light: basically just the airloads from the wingtip.
Get an A&P to look at it before you trash the spar, and maybe call Van's and ask
Van hinself to view your pictures and give you some advice. My gut instinct
tells me it's salvagable, but I think the outboard rib is too far gone to straighten
      - a small loss.

Mike: sounds like fun! Just one question: how are we going to get home? Civil
twilight will be around 6:30 that night, and I need to be on the ground around
then to avoid deer and other dusk hazards... Note that we revert to EST the
following morning, so that Saturday is the official end of the late evening flying
season :-( I hate it when that happens!

Sounds like those of us taking in the full offerings will need to RON and fly home
      in the am?

Sept 25 is the annual Wings and Wheels event at Hummel Field in Topping, VA. I've
never been, but this is apparently no hole-in-the-wall event (nor is it huge).
And it's perfectly poised as a stepping stone to a Chesapeake Bay overflight
to Tangier Island, home, I am told, of the best fresh seafood around and
a really cool adventure by plane. (Wife and I went 2 years ago but too late in
the season and, although we enjoyed having the whole island to ourselves, really
missed not having any restaurants open - ooops!)

I can check on B&B lodging availability for the group... we could spend Saturday
night there and fly home Sunday, maybe even explore the Eastern Shore on the
way home; there's a weekly Sunday soup day at the Crisfield, MD airport that
is a really nice event, especially after spending the night on an island with
no open restaurants, as I already mentioned. The hospitality at Crisfield is
top-notch; the people and food wonderful.

Interest level??? Let me know. My wife is "in," so there's a start.

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely consult with Van's on Monday.

Now, two things that concern me:

        1) The spar flange and web cracked. It's hard to see in these pics, but
it's right at the second rib. I am not sure if this can be fixed without a
whole reinforcement plate (not just a strip).

I took another picture that shows the problem better:

      http://www.vitez.net/images/wing4.jpg

        2) I'm concerned that the spar may be weakened by these bends. While
bends can be straightened (more or less), I'm wondering if that would weaken
      the spar itself.

Of course, it looks a lot worse than pics when *I* am looking at it. :) I
did drill it out, but that's still not a problem to rivet it back in if it's
      salvageable.

      Thanks again!
      Radomir

| Subject: | Any Formation Flying Plans/Wanabees Out There Amongst |
      The SERV Gang??

      --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "James E. Clark" <james@nextupventures.com>

      Just wondering ...

It really would be nice if we could get some formation practice in with the
      SERV gang.

How many members have already been to a Formation Seminar?

Anyone out there already with a "Wingman" or "Lead" card??

       ... looking for some multi-ship (>2) time
