Way to go, Larry!
Congratulations!!!
(You let that chase plane come in mighty close on a first flight; slap the other
pilot for me.)

Thanks.
He wasn't that close. Radomir has a 4 foot lense on his camera. It
barely fit in Wayne's plane!! He takes a good picture, doesn't he? I
think he should be the official SERV Photo Journalist Dude. So he needs a
call sign like f-stop, or appeture, or something........

I always tell people I'm using a ZOOM lense when I show them flying pics...
Just like I always say Gaggle instead of Formation flying.....
and well gaggle is true, cause I'm not a formation pilot yet....and I
wouldn't want to mislead any newbie RV guys into thinking it is not as
extreamly hard as it is.......
Larry......big Congrats on the First Flight...way to go!!! fantastic plane!
And the flying pics are top notch....I enjoyed seeing them very much!!!

Does anybody have any first hand experience scratch-building seats for an RV4?
I'm trying to figure out whether I'm supposed to just make big thick cushions
for the bottoms or build up some type of pedestal. Any good recommendations regarding
types of foam would also be helpful.

I knew there was some safe explanation. Carry on.
"F-stop," indeed. I shutter to think what call sign Radomir might get shackled
with.

I scratched built the cushions for my RV-4. The builder had installed some
thick slab cushions that were very uncomfortable. It took me two days to
recover after flying the plane back from CA :-) And the backseat was even
worse!
I made the seat back cushions out of 1" thick high density foam to give more
leg room. I added lumbar support to the backs. I custom shaped the bottoms
to give better thigh and butt support, using high density foam. I added a
layer of comfor foam (aka memory foam or temper foam) in the front and
intend to add it in the back. I designed the back cushions so that people
with different trunk heights can see out the window while not hit their head
on the roof. (The tallest people need to be almost on the floor.) And
don't forget to pad the rear canopy support bar.
Now, myself and my passenger can sit in the plane pain free for 4+ hours (I
have tip tanks).
I must admit I've been told it would be more correct from a crash
perspective to use Styrofoam instead of high density foam for the base (with
3" of temper foam on top).
I would be happy to show this to you and talk further.

Glass-smooth day or gyro-stabilized steadi-cam? I can't get air-to-air shots that
crisp with a point-n-shoot zoomed out at 1/250 most days :-)
