I'm hoping that everyone is just waiting until the last minute to show their support... ;-) Please remember that its solely your direct Contributions that keep these Lists up and running and most importantly - AD FREE! If the members don't want to support the Lists directly, then I will likely have to start adding advertisements to offset the costs of running the Lists. But I *really* don't want to have to start doing that. I really like the non-commercial atmosphere here and I think that a lot of the members appreciate that too. Won't you please take a moment to make a contribution today in support of the continued ad-free operation of all these Lists? http://www.matronics.com/contribution I want to send out a word of appreciation to all of the members that have already made their generous contribution to support the Lists! Thank you! We started with 1/2" space around the tire and found we had to enlarge this where the tire bulges from low air or heaven forbid a bounced landing. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 04:59:07 AM PST US From: "BOB martin" Subject: RVSouthEast-List: Wheel Pants and more --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "BOB martin" Ron, The 1/2 is and was enough in front and rear where the tire doesn't get larger but where it bulges we probably got close to 3/4"....that, with new vigilance on the tire pressure which is helped by the air-stop tubes....... I never thought about raising the pant, like larry is proposing. I read one report where a builder even lowered his for more tire coverage. Looking at the tire from the air, in flight, there seems to be plenty showing. One builder told me his didn't come with the rear bulkhead in the back half, and he taxied on gravel one time and it acted like a scoop.....the rear bulkhead seems important to the overall strength of the complete assembly and don't forget the drain hole for the space behind the bulkhead. as a note here...I reinforced the mounting screw hole areas with a few extra layers of fiberglass cloth about 2 inches square. I also made sure the lower tire opening edges were nice and round so not to cut the tire if it did touch. While on the subject, I used a trick to find the holes to drill into the nutplates once I had perfect alignment......I made a little crude wiring harness with xmas tree lights.....from the LOWES aviation electrical dept. and taped then behind the nutplate so I could see the hole perfectly. Also.....I used Flox (epoxy and floxed cotton) as a filler under the axle bracket to fill the gap between the bracket and the pant. Once it cured, I then added the rivets thru the assembly for a good strong connection. Happy Building Bob Martin, Louisa County, Va.... This morning I saw 138 oil temp on a 30 min flight to FAY. Why doesn't the vernatherm work to get oil temps up to where they should be? I thought that oil wasn't supposed to flow to the cooler until it reaches the temp specified on the vernatherm. Seems like that ought to eliminate having to block off the cooler. What don't I understand about what's happening here? Was up LATE (in the cold) finishing up a marker beacon receiver install as part of the IFR upgrade of "Papa Juliette". Then the *replacement* STROBE assembly arrived so that got installed as well. Was still clear and smooth so we did a bit of formation practice ... boy was I rusty from no practice for a week or two. Then on to do some practice ILS approaches at KCAE. All seems to work except I need to get the volume cranked up a bit on the RCVR and the blue light was hard to see in the BRIGHT sunlight. But then again that should not be a problem. :-) We gotta get the "formation" members of this gang together somewhere for some formation practice.
