I do some racing with a Miata I have and it is interesting to see what
the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) has to say on this issue.
For road racing they require 3" certified belts. The shoulder harness
has to have two separate straps, no Y belts allowed (anymore) and they
are moving towards requiring all sub-straps be inverted V's, with two
attachment points.
If any of you want to know what happens in the event of an accident to
your internal organs when using a harness without the sub-strap, email
and I'll let you know. It ain't pretty. Needless to say, USE that
sub-strap.
Oh, and the belts expire so you have to replace them every so often as
they loose about 50% of their effectiveness after five years. I'm using
Willans camloc harnesses in the car and will probably do the same in the
-9. (http://www.bethania-garage.com/willans_cam3.htm)
You can pick up expired belts at Muscle Motor Sports, purveyors of fine,
used NASCAR parts, here in Huntersville and have them "re-webbed" by a
parachute rigger. Unfortunately, you can't do that in racing because
you need the certification/expiration tag.

Thanks Wayne.. it's these considerations I'm looking
for.
Just to clarify V vs. Y type:
This is Y-type:
http://www.crowenterprizes.com./PAGE%20IMAGES/11125.jpg
V-type is basically the same, except that the shoulder harnesses meet
all the way in the back (near or at) the bolt-in hardware into a single
attach point.
Not sure if this would work:
http://www.crowenterprizes.com./PAGE%20IMAGES/11104.jpg
(it might, if those two harness attach points can be sandwitched
together into Van's harness cable)... These guys couldn't tell me how
thick exactly the hardware is... they said "around 0.0900.. so
theoretically, might work as cable attach bracket is
3/16")
PS. I'm really after an affordable rotary latch
system... :)
Thanks!

Do any of you have the video on how to rebuild a Lycoming engine they
would like to sell or lend (for a few months)?
I'm about ready to start on the O-290 for my -9 and figure the video
might be a good addition to the Lycoming manual.
Thanks,
Bill

Superior may have one. Don't they put on an assembly workshop at Oshkosh?

Saturday's weather look like it might interfere with our lunch plans. How
