While the plastic lines appear to perform adequately in the cockpit (I don't use them any where), my understanding is that the high temperatures near the brake rotor can adversely affect their performance in that region (they leak). Supposedly due to the heat which softens them slightly and of course the high hydraulic pressure present. I use the stainless steel braided hose for my brake lines inside the cockpit and never had a leak. I used the solid aluminum tube down to the brakes - but must admit it is somewhat of a pain to bend all the stress loops that van calls for. I inadvertently drilled into one of the aluminum tubes and replaced it with the stainless steel braided hose. Personally, I would not rely on plastic lines under high pressure and exposed to high temperatures to stop my airplane. But, that is a personally preference. My -6 has the alum tubing with the coils for movement and seem to work well. Although I'm following the thread about the high temp fluid and newer seals closely. I only have about 500 hrs on the plane and haven't fixed yet as it doesn't seem to cause much problems other than messy wheel pants. I regularly check security of all the connections. I top off at oil changes and haven't gone through a gallon of hydraulic fluid yet. Its time for some new tires and brake pads now so I may try and fix all at once. I suppose a brake line to caliper setup like a Cessna or Piper would be better? Just the thought of short sleeves today gives me the chills. :-) But I have sent to Len a few shots to maybe pick from to share. Len (and Bill), you guys clearly "earned" your shirts on Sunday flying with us. [Don't worry others, there is NO need to "EARN" the right to wear the shirt ... just have the interest/desire and the $$ when Patty puts out the call.] For those who have not seen them the SERV CAPs are pretty cool too. Gotta get myself one of those! Clark" Subject: RVSouthEast-List: Next Formation Practice ????? --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "James E. Clark" OK Gang ... We need to set the "date certain" (maybe, almost, weather permitting etc., etc.) for our next practice. There were some references to Saturday the 1st or Sunday the 2nd. There has been a reference to Saturday the 8th as well. Each of these were mentioned in conjunction with a Stanton's run. Sooo ... the question(s): 1. What is your preferred date for the next practice? 2. Should that date be tied in with a "Stanton's run"? 3. If not Stanton's, do you have a location preference? (The location should be one that allows us to brief, fly, de-brief ... REPEAT.) 4. If you have not flown with us before but are interested, what are your plane model/engine HP/prop type specifics? Who's in???? :-) James ... just trying to get a feel before the holidays are upon us and we are off to other things.
