I think it was appropriate that Steve's last
plans on this earth were to go flying. I'm sorry
he didn't get to but he is now on the ultimate
flight. Since that final flight on earth was to
be with me, I can certainly be available too.
      Just let me know.

We met many very nice folks, only about 30 RV's though. Ed Anderson was the
only other SERVer that made it. Way to go Ed!

Ron gave me my first lesson in formation flying. We joined up in a three
plane formation for over an hour. Great stuff. Too bad the cameras where
behind the back seat in the luggage.

Many hellos to Len from the guys down there. They are all planning on
      Lumberton

Glad you guys made the trip safely !!

      She
thought for just a moment and then asked me if it would be possible for some
of the guys to fly over at Steve's funeral. I told her that I know several
pilots who would probably be honored to do such a thing. So, I am passing
the request on to the members of SERV Squadron. I don't know when or where
but I will pass on details as I learn them.
I am traveling to California on Tuesday to visit my father but will return
late Friday. I may not have access to email while I am gone, but I will
have the cell phone (704-798-5307). If you would like to help out, email me

I am out of town beginning Tuesday at lunch time and returning on Friday

      Hey guys,

I tried bending one of the longerons, but it's not really going that well.
I figured I better ask for help before I ruin 'em.

Wondering if anyone would have time this weekend to stop by and give a hand
(and experience!)? I think this one is still salvageable :-) So, before I
make even worse mess, I'd rather stop and call in the cavalry.

      Thanks!

They can be a real hassle. It has been a year since I did mine but would be
glad to talk or help based on location. Trust me I felt the same way But a
dead blow hammer, large wrench, and a good vice not to mention a hundred
rechecks with the template eventually yield a nice finished product.
If I can help just call.

I just got off the phone with Sheila Behrens. Steve's memorial service will be
at 2 PM on Wednesday at the Grace Chapel in Ashborro. Burial will be behind
the chapel following the service. I have to leave for CA Tuesday morning to look
after my father, so Scott Keadle will be in charge of the flyover preparations.
Contact Scott at 704-650-0249 or at scott@keadle.com if you can help out.
I know most will be unable to do this on a Wednesday afternoon and this is
short notice. Sheila is very appreciative of our efforts and is thrilled to
have us participate in his memorial.

      Robert,

So far, I have made contact with the funeral director. He
has a friend at the Asheboro airport that he thinks will be
able to find a local pilot to coordinate things from the
      ground at the burial site.
The current time estimate is 3pm, but will probably be
revised +/- 30 minutes before tomorrow afternoon.
Ron Schreck suggests a slow flight at 1000' agl, and that an
extended trailing formation be used unless we get volunteers
with closer formation experience and ability. I will post
details here as they become available, and request that
anyone who would like to help leave their phone numbers
either here, or email them directly to Scott@Keadle.com.
If anyone knows a retired pilot in Asheboro, we need any/all
of the following to make this happen:
      1. Long/Latitude of Grace Chapel
      2. The loan of a handheld radio for ground coordination
      3. Either a pilot or someone trained to use the handheld to
call in the airplanes at the appropriate time from the
      ground at Grace Chapel.

If there is an RV pilot with experience in either flyovers
or formation flight listening, we could use you to take over
the operational details of the flight.

      Thanks to all in advance.

Note that the service is at Gray's Chapel which is not on the sectional, but
is on the highway map located due north of Franklinville & just east of
Randleman on hwy 22. I am based at Asheboro with an RV6A if I can be of help.

I put the longeron in a big vise, right at the bend point. I firmly pushed
on the longeron in the direction on the bend (left or right) while giving it
some firm taps in the same direction with a two pound sledge hammer. Check
for your target angle and repeat. I found it bent surprisingly easy using
      this method.

The worst part for me was understanding which way each section was suppose
to bend. I must have checked it 100 times and I scribbled arrows everywhere
      on the angle.
