I don't have any formal plans for Saturday other than the normal meeting for
lunch at Stantons at 11am.
James, Ken, Bill and I have been doing as much formation practice as possible
... weather has not cooperated lately. We are encouraging as many as
possible that have an interest to attend the Ohio RVators seminar in June ... it
is a
great start.
One of the things that we have discussed a lot among those of us practicing
formation is the safety issue of bringing others that have an interest into the
practice. It is a sticky subject because we don't want to exclude anyone but
at the same time all of our lives are on the line. It is sooo important that
everyone know the basics ... signals, maneauvers, etc. Briefings are
mandatory so that everyone knows what is going to happen in the flight. I give
James
and Ken a ton of credit for having very detailed and professional briefing
sessions. Bill and I were very comforted at our first briefing with these guys.
Two ship practice is also a lot easier than starting with a group of 3 or 4
ships.
I don't think it would be prudent for us to gather at Stantons and all go fly
formation. A great start is "Thuh Book" on formation flying ... Dennis in
Greenville has mine ... maybe he can bring it to the meeting Saturday. I have
several copies of the video series (VCR) on formation flying. I would be happy
to put them into the "SERV LIBRARY". Anyone is welcome to borrow them by
paying the postage and sending them back.
I think this would be a great subject for the meeting at Stantons on Saturday.

Lee Air Ranch RV Flyin (they love us). I inquired as to whether they might
want a few more RVs - and as you can see (below) all you have to do if you want
to join the fun is to send Esten Spears your e mail address and get an invite.
Perhaps James, you or Len, might want to see about a formation flight and
coordinate it with Esten - up to you guys of course.

, we have an entire squadron of RVs up here - the SouthEast RV Squadron
which also includes a group of formation flyers that could be invited. That
would add up to 10-15 additional Rvs. A number were disappointed that weather
kept them from the Florida LakeLand RV fly in January - so would probably be
primed to come.
But, if you are interested I can provide you with the email address of our SERV
mailing address and you can decided whether to or not.
As for Me? I've got my invitation {:>).

Flying Diractions
Leeward Air Ranch is a Private Sport Aviation Community. Location is 11NM on
the 118 deg Radial from the Ocala VOR (OCF 113.7) and is on the Sectional symbol
FD04. The coordinates are 29 05.6' N and 82 02.0' W. The runway is N-S, 6247'
Long X 250' Wide Smooth Turf. The Taxiway is adjacent running the full length
on the West side of the runway. Please use taxiway which will keep the runway
open for arrivals. We use a Left Pattern for Runway 36 and a Right Pattern
for Runway 18. The CTAF is 122.9 and we will have someone to advise on active
runway and any traffic they are aware of. During this event we will displace
the North End Threshold about 1200' so please favor the south end of the runway
on your landing.
From Orlando: (50 to 75 minutes)
(If you would like to drive through Ocala, take the Fla. Turnpike to 1-75,
follow the From 1-75 directions and allow an additiona/15 minutes.)
North on Fla. Turnpike to Wildwood US301 North exit. Then proceed north about
15 miles to Belleview. (If you miss the exit, the Turnpike extension you are
on will merge into 1-75, so take 1-75 North and follow From 1.75 directions.)
Turn left at traffic signal on US441/301/27 North and go about 2 blocks to next
traffic signal and
turn right on SR25 South and go about 4 blocks. When you cross the railroad
tracks, make an Immediate left at the traffic signal on SR35 North (aka Baseline
Rd). Proceed 2'1, miles to SE 85th Lane. Turn right and go 1 mile to the entrance.
Call "111" from gate for the office or call any Leeward. If you see Associated
Grocers Warehouse on the right, you went too far.
From 1-75: (50 mins from Gainesville and 90 mins from Tampa)
1-75 to Exit 350 (SR200 North Ocala). Turn northeast onto SR200 and proceed
2 miles to SR464 East (aka SW 17th St) at the Buick dealership. Turn right and
go 7 miles east to SR35 South (aka Baseline Rd) at traffic signal. Turn right.
Proceed 2'1, miles south to SE 85th Lane just past Associated Grocers warehouse.
Turn left and go 1 mile to the entrance.
From Ocala Municipal Airport: (15 - 20 minutes)
Exiting airport, turn right onto SW 60th Ave. Turn left at the next Intersection
On to SW 20th St. Continue for 3 miles to SR200. Turn left on SR 200 and
proceed northeast about a ,/, mile to SR 464 East (aka S..W. 17th St.) at Buick

The registration is CLOSED and we represent almost 1/4 of the total and
almost 1/3 of the non- Lead/Wingman/Checkpilots attending!
Let's not "mess it up" for everyone by showing up not having done our
homework :-) soooooo.....
If you have not found and read "Thuh Book", now is the time. If you don't
know where to find one, stay tuned, we'll take care of that. Len has a
"Len-ding" Library for "Thuh Video". I would have has one too but it seems I
must have loaned it out with having a signout! :-(
We will all learn a LOT from this clinic. If this is your first one, you
will leave it AMAZED (and happily tired).
Here is the list for SERV attendees as I understand it. I ***THINK*** I got
everyone in the database that asked me to. My list below with the numbers
should be consistent with Rick's list further down. I marked Rick's list
with a ">>" for SERV folks. If your name is not there and you thought is was
going to be, get in touch with me (IF you sent me email) or Rick if you
filled out the database before the cutoff.
With 11 of us attending, once this is over we should be able to get in some
great practices.
