I know everyone from the Southeast RV Squadron and the Mid-Atlantic RV Wing
is planning to attend the Fly-in in Richmond Kentucky sponsored by Dan
Overall but if your available the day before

The Monsters are coming! The Monsters are coming! You have all probably
heard of or seen at least one episode of Monster Garage. Well, here is your
chance to see it up front and personal and maybe even get a little TV face
      time.

Monster Garage from the Discovery Channel has built an experimental
car/airplane and will be bringing it to the Wright Brothers Memorial in
Kitty Hawk NC on Friday, February 25, 2005 from 8:00am to 12:00 pm. The
car/airplane is being trucked from Long Beach, Ca. to the Wright Brothers
Memorial (First Flight) for a photo opportunity.

Between 12:00 and 1:00pm it will be moved (by truck) to the Currituck
Airport for a test flight (in ground effect only) beginning at approximately
2:00 pm to 6:00pm . Our EAA Chapter (1278) has been asked by the Discovery
Channel to gather our homebuilts and classics to be at both places to show
off our airplanes for the cameras. What a story youll have when you go
back to work on Monday and brag to your colleagues. Bet not many of them
will have anything as exciting to discuss around the water cooler! I know
this is on a Friday but what a way to spend one of your vacation days.
      Please attend if you can.

I will pass along any further information I receive. If you plan to attend,
please email me as soon as possible.

      Curtis Hinkley

I'd love to try this trip, Curtis. It just so happens I already have the day off.
Now all I need is for the wx to cooperate and the daughter at college NOT
to need Daddy to give her a ride home in the RV from Newport News for Spring
      Break.

As an aside, what kind of idiot would test fly a new plane "in ground effect only"
from Manteo's runway? IMO, crow-hops are about the most dangerous maneuver
you can try in a new plane unless you've got 10,000 feet in front of you, which
MQI does not. My guess is the pilot will take it up and around, if the plane
feels right just after rotation. I know I would. I aborted a takeoff early
in my test phase when I had an engine hiccup at 40 feet AGL, and it took all
the 7000 feet at LWB and flat spots on both main tires to get stopped before
the REIL lights and the grass beyond. Not a recommended maneuver :-)

It would be great to get a big turnout from SERV, MARV and all the local chapters
for this photo op. Be careful if Showtime makes it over from PKB; I hear it's
dangerous to get between him and a TV camera ;-)

      Best to all,
