Dear SERV list,
I'm considering building a RV-8 and was wondering if anyone out there
had a copy of the EAA's TV show "From the Ground Up" that I might be
able to borrow ? Id like to get a better idea of what I'm getting into
:) The main reasons for choosing a RV for me were the airplanes'
abilities, the strength and longevity of the manufacturer, and the
enthusiasm of the RV community. I think I've read every RV-8 website on
the internet and can't wait to get started. Anyway, I'm planning to
attend the flyin April 2 in Columbia SC since I've never actually seen
and RV in person and look forward to meeting many off you.

Lance, Don't do it!! Don't do it!! Don't come to Columbia and see all those
wonderful RVs!
You'll get hooked, you'll need a fix, you'll want to fly in one and **THEN**
you'll want to build one ... right now.
So remember, I warned you. :-)

Seriously, come one down. You'll love it and I am sure we will be able to
round up a ride for you.

By the way, Lance. Just as a heads-up, that offer by James is better know
as the "$50,000" Free Ride (not adjusted for inflation), because most people
after riding in an RV go out and buy/build one. {:>)
Welcome, you won't find a better bunch of gals and guys.

Lance,
I have these videos and would be willing to loan
them to you. I'm in Hickory and travel to Durham
every other weekend for school. Unfortunately, that
falls on April 2nd. I can ship them if you like, but
I will need them back. There are four videos, and
they take a little less than two hours per video to
watch (4 thirty minute shows without commercials per
tape).

I've been resisting the temptation to find someone to hitch a ride with
for several months now just to avoid the "I've got to build it now
itch". I'm hoping the rv-8 flys like the beech t-34 mentor but without
the pesky inflight wing seperation issues :) I actually had about an
hour in each of the three t-34's that had their wings fall off a couple
years ago. I guess that also helped me decide on building a new plane
instead of buying a 40 year old fatigue cracked junker.
Yeah, I've heard about that $50k test flight but by my calculations
it'll be more like $100K+ for a well equipped ifr cross country machine.
Hopefully avionics and engine prices will drop significantly while I'm
building..
