RVSouthEast-List Usage Guidelines
******************************************************************************
The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the RVSouthEast-List.
You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein.
Failure to use the RVSouthEast-List in the manner described below may result
in the removal of the subscribers from the List.
RVSouthEast-List Policy Statement
The purpose of the RVSouthEast-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established:
- Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit
posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.
- THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be
relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it.
- Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive
that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and
terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and
responses.
- Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address,
aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line
about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid
bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary
space in the archive.
- DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is
easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the
web page or FAQ first.
- If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of
your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it
easy to find threads in the archive.
- When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your
response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the
reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that
quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive
can not be overstated!
- When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT
then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the
"reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your
response to the original poster. You might have to actively address
your response with the original poster's email address.
- DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something
to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I
agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent
to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large.
- When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to
comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly
contribute something valuable.
- Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone
polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack
other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously
controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that
will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing.

I am keeping a list of NC airports that charge landing fees for using a
public airport that my tax dollars helped build. I don't land at them.
So far I have Hickory Regional airport and now Moore County on the list

no idea what I was talking about. I read her your verbage from the website on
discount ... mentioning the clinic, etc .... she said "no go".

is there a minimum amount of fuel you need to buy there to avoid the landing
fee? In other words, could you just buy 1 or 2 gallons of gas and be okay?
Is this going to become a trend in this area? I like ot fly all over and I
use autogas in my 4, I don't want to buy avgas or pay landing fees!!!

I'm not sure that "landing fee" is the correct term. I think that the fees
may be a ramp fee to cover cost's associated with parking airplanes on the
ramp and using the facilities. I assume one could land and taxi, takeoff,
and do it over and over and not be charged. Just don't park your airplane.
Does anyone have the official language from either of these airports? Is
the fee for all aircraft or turbine aircraft?
I understand that Monroe (EQY) has a ramp fee for turbine aircraft if they
don't buy fuel. Piston aircraft are not charged (yet).
Lets face it FBO's need to make a profit to stay in business. Providing
lounges, restroom facilities, ramp space, and personel to park airplanes
and chock them cost money. Apparently a coke and pack of nabs (thats
crackers to all you non-southerners) does not cover the cost. I don't
like the likelyhood of having to pay a fee or buy gas at every airport that
I land at, but it may come to that. Like you, Ed, I will avoid those
airports as long as I can.

Larry, what do you think about adding a section to the southeast web page
listing those airports which charge landing fees. I for one would like to
know BEFORE some FBO tells Me I owe him $20 for landing at a public airport
build by my tax payer dollar. Not that a boycott by small folks like
ourselves is likely to change that - but, it would enable us to support
those airports which have not fallen to this level.

Mike, I am all for an FBO making a profit. However I think my time spent
sitting on one of his lounge chairs (which I seldom do) in the public
terminal is not costing him anywhere near $20 per visit to keep the chair
maintained. But, you are correct "Ramp" fee is probably the correct term
and as long as you don't stop and park you are probably OK.
It may come that small private grass strip airfields with fuel may gain
popularity if this trend continues.

Oh well ...
Next time. I do remember you talking about turning the camera on and my
asking if it included audio. I guess in this case it included ONLY audio.
NO, you did not scare me at all! I will gladly ride with you anytime.
(Remember, you added a stick to the back and there was a throttle there too.
:-) )
Seriously, there were a couple of times when I might have sounded anxious
but it was just that I wanted you to respond right then as I knew the longer
you waited, the harder it would be for you to correct. The anticipation
thing comes with air miles. Practice, practice and more practice.
There was a lot of stuff happening and as time went on, you started getting
more into the groove ... even with the bumpy weather and the "moving about
#3". I am sure you were tense. I bet your fingers hurt, your toes hurt and
your neck hurt. Gosh, your eyeballs probably hurt afterwards! Over time you
will relax more. Near the end you were "sighting through to lead and holding
steady". For now, just remember to get "on the line" and stay there ... as
far out as you wish now, but on the line.
I think you will be VERY surprised at how well you do the next time in
smoother air. We definitely should do another ride together if you don't
mind. That might even be a better time to have the video. :-)
I bet my chatter sounds really funny without the video. Please do NOT post.

Another kind of experience..........
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I flew into Wilmington (ILM) which has a
listed landing fee according to the AOPA Directory. We parked at the Aero
Services North FBO. I was told the landing fee did not apply to us unless we
went thru US Customs. The RV-6A stayed on their ramp for five nights (two
more nights than planned while we froze on the beach in the unusually cold,
wet and windy spring weather ) Purchased 18 gals of 100LL and they waived
the parking fee for all five nights! Their service was top notch and they
have a very nice lounge and facilities. The gas price was more that I
normally pay but not more than places like Monroe EQY.
This was my wife's first flight/trip in the RV with me and the experience at
Aero Services North made it even better. Oh, and the Coastal Carolina Air
Show was taking place that weekend. The place was busy!
Recommend Aero Services North when going to ILM.

I'm sure many of you use the airport directory at www.airnav.com . Did you
know that you can post comments about your experiences at the airports you
visit and these comments are available for anyone to view online? The ramp

If that would be useful I'd be all for it. Ideally that info is already

I understand why FBO's are doing it, although it does seem unfair to us

Don't know how militant they will be. I got the feeling during a short
conversation that if you stop in to use the restroom and leave requiring
no services, (free coffee, ice, use of courtesy car, etc) they might not
charge you. I think any amount of fuel purchase, within reason, should
get you out of the fee.

Is this going to become a trend in this area? I like ot fly all over and

I haven't heard anything either, wasn't sure if I was going to go at all. If
your going Ben and you can keep me in the loop as to when we will leave and
get back I would like to follow you there - If my little RV-4 can keep up!!!
I got tickets to the Comedy Zone to see Mark Scroggins wife perform Saturday
night and I need to be home to get ready by 6:30 pm. Mark is the guy at
Goose Creek that just bought a SWEET RV-6 with all the gizmos and
gadjets....
