--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: Lenleg@aol.com Guys: Need you help on troubleshooting a problem on my Lightspeed. I have 355 hours on my 8A and the problems started surfacing about 50 hours ago. I started chasing the problem but was looking in the wrong direction. RPM gauge on my Rky Mtn uMonitor was all over the place ... giving me all sorts of varying numbers when the plane got warmed up ... talked with Rky Mtn ... checked wiring and finally rewired the plug. Nothing changed ... At this same time ... noticed that the CHTs were indicating hotter than normal ... no explanation ... thought that was the uMonitor also. On runups the lighspeed seem to be a little rough but not so much that you would not fly .. in fact ... I wondered if the rough was my imagination. The the last couple of starts on the lighstpeed the prop stopped very quckly after a half turn or so ... now I knew there was something going on here ... thought it might be timing ... but that checked out dead on. Then yesterday the Lightspeed failed completely on runup ...my rpm gauge is connected only to the Lightspeed and not the mag on the other side ...SO it turns out all this time with the rpm varying ... was not the gauge but the Lightspeed .... I have the cowl off ... checked wiring ... nothing wrong ... checked timing ... good ....?????? Klaus is out of his office until June 28 ... so I am down for a month . HELP !!!! --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Larry Bowen" <Larry@BowenAero.com> Your symptoms sound similar to some that I have experienced. Every time my EI failed it was because the pick-up couldn't keep time with the engine. My failure was always in the wires coming from the pickup. They would usually test fine, until I moved them slightly, simulating the rockin'-n-rollin' of the running Lycoming. Try wiggling the wiring while testing it. - Larry Bowen Larry@BowenAero.com http://BowenAero.com > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-rvsoutheast-list-server@matronics.com > [mailto:owner-rvsoutheast-list-server@matronics.com] On > Behalf Of Lenleg@aol.com > Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2005 1:03 PM > To: RV-8@yahoogroups.com > Subject: RVSouthEast-List: Lightspeed EI Problem > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: Lenleg@aol.com > > Guys: > > Need you help on troubleshooting a problem on my Lightspeed. > I have 355 > hours on my 8A and the problems started surfacing about 50 > hours ago.
