Hey Stormy,
Maybe we can get them to guard our airplanes as well. Lynne and I are still
planning on the trip and look forward to it as well. Lets pray for good
weather.

When I called Vans, they told me that this piece had to be trimmed and
almost seemed insulted by the question since this information was in my
instructions.
Don't feel bad. That is the attitude of a few of Van's people. Doesn't
matter what question!

Hi All and Jimmy Ayres,
The last time I called for technical assistance, I was trying to determine
why the RV-7 elevator fit differently on the RV-6 HS than on the RV-8 HS.
(The difference being in the clearance to the center bearing.)
Not being a typical builder, I have a RV-6A that I am reconstructing the
empannage section, and a modified RV-4 with a RV-8 HS. (BTW, the RV-7 elevators
fit both HS.)
Van's Aircraft actively discourages any changes to their design. This is
actually a good thing. It will save the builder months, or even years, of
extra building time. (Figure three months extra building time for even a simple
change.)
The person at Van's Aircraft might have thought that they knew you (me), or
about you(me).
I met Van at a fly-in in 1973. I built and am flying RV-3 sn 50.
Perhaps if you used a different name, like Fred or George, you would get a
more typical response when you talk to Van's. :-)
Regards,

I was just looking at the pictures on the list SERV
(http://servpix.myphotoalbum.com
And was surprised to see the pics of Ed's brake line failure and subsequent
fire. My RV9A kit has steel braided lines instead of the aluminum tubing
that so many of us are using. May be time for an upgrade... Also, as a
reminder, the Danville FBO now carries that new brake fluid that has the
much higher flashpoint.

Just finished my new panel upgrade. I did away with all the vacuum stuff
trying to get the best of both worlds- acro and IFR. Don't think there's any
production airplane that can claim that! Larry uploaded a pic for me on the
pixserv (http://servpix.myphotoalbum.com)
Still need to add my labels and complete my homebrew LED indicator light
panel. Funny how I like to keep working on this plane even after its flying!

Hi Wayne,
Yes, a bit of excitement for sure. My bird now has stainless steel braided
lines as well - certainly don't want a repeat {:>). Seems like someone on
the Southeast RV list talked about purchasing a quantity of the 80 series
fluid back some time ago - but hadn't heard anything more about it.
May just have to fly up to Danville with a pint can and see if I can get
any.

Nice, Wayne! Great craftsmanship evident there.
Now, (ahem...) move that butt-ugly Pegasus SIRS compass out of the line of vision
and put it in the bottom row of the panel where it belongs. With all that electronic
real estate to stare at, you will NEVER look at the whiskey compass
anyway, so what if it gets a little EMI from nearby wiring - it's just there for
looks at inspection time.
I want to know how you did your LED lights; I've been researching the same thing
(an archive search made more difficult by the many builders who refer to annunciator
lights as "enunciator lights," no doubt the product of government schooling.
I suppose those would be lights installed to help the pilot speak more
distinctly? ;-) Once I "cracked the code," I was able to find a bit on Google
and elsewhere about rolling homebrew lights for the annunciator panel.
I see you went modular with sub-panels, which is what I am going to do tnis time
so I don't have to keep cutting new full-size panel blanks every time something
gets changed.

Oh, phooey - I failed to notice the BMA avionics; my bad - take back what I said
about craftsmanship, and you're going to need that whiskey compass more than
I thought ;-) Just kidding.
I kinda feel about BMA the way Matt Dralle must feel about JPI; anyone who disses
my homeboy Bob Nuckolls has lost my avionics busuness before he ever got it.
That part I am not kidding about.
