We currently have Jesse and Lucille's room reserved at the Crews Inn. Unfortunately,
it looks like we will have to cancel on this outing...... too much stuff
going on to spend the whole weekend. We may fly up for a day trip. I plan
to call the Crews Inn later today to officially cancel there. If any SERV person
is interested in the room, it will become available later today.

September 2 is approaching, gang.
I have the following couples on my short list of participants:
Millsaps
Leggettes
Barbees
Williams
Bowens
Boyds
Glasgows
That's 14 of us. There's room on the island for more :-)
I'd like for everyone who's still "in" to confirm here on the list. Anyone
dropping out, please tell us so we can give your room reservation to someone
else in the group. Those of you who didn't get a room at the Crews Inn,
where are you staying? I suggest we carry some of those PRS walkie-talkies
(the kind with the 14 channels and the 38 privacy codes) so we can
coordinate group activities like dinners, sightseeing flights, etc. That
might be especially helpful for those in our group who are lodging
elsewhere.
I made a few calls today and found one place that will not only reserve
rental bikes for us, they'll drop them at the airstrip for us and let us
leave them there when we depart Monday. The rental rate is $23 plus tax for
a three-day adult bike rental, ($39 for 3 days for a bicycle-for-two tandem
rental). They want a credit card prepayment, and will then give you the
combination to the lock, so you can ride away from the tie-down area in
style on Friday. For those who may not know, the island is small and
everything is within walking distance of a fit person if you've got all day,
but bikes are the way to go! The Crews Inn lodge-keeper has been generous
in the past with automobile pickups and occasional rides, but for the most
part we'll need our own transportation while there. Bring safety gear like
helmets, lights/cyalume sticks for night riding, and bug spray. I warned
you ;-) IMO, Backpacks are a must for getting gear and purchases to and
from the beaches and shops on a bike, but I htink they have handlebar
baskets, too. To reserve your two-wheeled transportation, call Beach
Outfitters at 252-928-6261. Might want to mention that you're with the
group of pilots staying at the Crews Inn Sept. 2-5. I did not ask about
their cancellation/refund policy, but keep that in mind if your plans are in
doubt. There are other places to rent bikes if these guys run short, but
the other places won't reserve them or deliver them.
This is going to be fun! Let's hear some ideas for things to do while we're
vegging for three nights on the Outer Banks. I'm bringing my laptop,
humidor, and some "spam can ham radio" stuff to amuse myself if y'all get
too boring. Folding beach chairs & umbrella. There might be room left for
my guitar if no one pays me enough to leave it at home.
Sound off! Roll call!

Indeed you were the "Williams" on the list. And I seem to recall you saying that
the call thing was once again an issue; not sure what cog I slipped to put
you on the list when I "knew" that already. Aging is scary sometimes.
Sorry you won't be able to make it to the OBX getaway.
You and Larry need to come up this way some time and drop in for a visit. It's
established dogma that you can't remain a member of SERV indefinitely and never
go to Stormy's place, right?

If I'm the "Williams" on the list, I'm out (again). I'm on call (as usual).
Sorry :(

Sound off! Roll call!
