Bill,
Kathy and I have made the Virginia Creeper Trail bike ride three times over
the past few years, always trying to time it to the height of the Fall
colors. We rent bikes in Damascus for about $23 each and the bike shop
takes us in their van to the top of White Mountain and the start of the
downhill ride back to Damascus. The trail is an old railroad bed which is
either level or slightly downhill for 17 miles through beautiful Virginia
mountains. It crosses a stream several times and there are great places to
stop and enjoy skipping rocks or just sitting to admire a view. The last
stop is the ice cream shoppe in Damascus at the end of the ride. We usually
stay in Blowing Rock. Great little hotels and the ladies like the shopping.
We have been talking about doing it again this year, but since the RV-8 is
not quite ready we will be driving up. We will have room for 3 passengers
if we coordinate our trip and rendezvous with some flyers. Hope we can make
it happen. It's a great trip.

Upon review of the videotapes, the referees have ruled that Bill misspelled "yahoo"
at the bottom of his original post. 5 yards; first down.
Stormy and Miriam are bound for Nashville next weekend (Sept 28-Oct. 1) so we feel
like we'd better not bug out on our son for yet another weekend so soon.
I might make the VA EAA fly-in at PTB Oct 2.
If anyone wants to tour central TN with us by RV, no problemo ;-) We're headed
direct from 12VA to M54. Unfortunately, we will miss the Lebanon, TN RV fly-in
that just ended last weekend.

I'd like to make trips like this, but at the risk of seeming non-social, I have
been putting as much of my free time as I can into smashing rivets and whittling
on aluminum. Its going slowly, but I am making solid progress. I am close
to selling the ol' C172 just because I don't seem to fly it much any more.
One day, I WILL fly this thing!
