It wasn't me, and anybody could have done the same thing. The press as
usual was making a big to do about nothing. The aircraft is designed to
have the nose wheel steering mechanism center the gear at liftoff. If it
does not center, the system will turn the wheel 90 degrees on purpose. All
this is to keep the nose gear from being cocked at say 45 degrees which
would be a much bigger problem. Airbus knew what they were doing. Although
this should probably be a one in a million event, it has happened twice
before with the same result. Still a great job, but a very anticipated
outcome. I'm glad it wasn't me though, because the Captain is going to be
writing letters and answering questions for a very long time. As to ending
the career, I'm looking forward to the usual boredom of airline flying.
RV's are much more fun and usually more exciting. I don't need to tell you
about excitement, you had some on the way to W95.

That's what the expert commentator said on Fox; outcome never in doubt, designed
this way, etc. Still, I was impressed with the precision of the rollout, and
the apparent poor braking action on a foamed runway. I suppose they went easy
on the brakes to keep load off the nose gear strut, but it didn't seem to be
in a hurry to decelerate.
Wonder how long LAX was backed up after that episode. Maybe they had a Clinton
Air Force One Haircut contingency plan, to restore order to the arrival and departure
flow. I bet the pax all missed their connecting flights out of New York!
Time now for some wise guy to say that we should never have started putting nose
wheels on passenger liners; look what happens, etc. ;-)

They gutted my DF200VS and installed the lastest hardware and software.
It's now nearly identical to the newer DigiFlight II, and "the same unit
that was in the Global Flyer when it flew around the world". Cool....

Larry,
I will be interested in your experience with the Dynon update. I have been
putting off the update to mine because I could not determine how much of an
improvement it would make.

hello netter's, i'm steve jones in venice fl. being new to the rv list. i
hope this is for builders since i'm starting to rebuild an RV 6 A wreck i picked
up. sorted out the new tail kit tonite & gettin ready to build. i wonder if
the 6-A main gear legs are the same as the tail dragger ?since i want to
convert it. i'll have the belly skins off to add whatever holds the tailweel
in place. it came with a chevy vortec v6 firewall forward which i'm gonna
sell, i want a
0320 for power & turbo it. by the way i'm currently flying my homebuilt KR2
N212KR i built powered with a turbo corvair eng. there's a 9 page story
on it in sport avaition may,05
so i'm excited to work with metal instead of composit & always have liked
the RV "s
now's my chance to build & fly my own :-) hope these huricanes go away,
cuttin into my flyin,,,steve jones

So far it's been pretty painless. Changing the wiring is going to be the
fun part. I'll be tackling that soon.
I was on the fence too, unsure of the practicle value of the upgrade and the
$450 it costs. Wayne 8A had already "been there, done that" with the
upgrade, so I followed. I'll report after flying a couple hours with it.

Hello Steve. I think Van's converted a 6 from tailwheel to trike, or
vise-versa -- so I guess it can be done. They might even have a parts list
for the conversion.

Where can I find a reference for gapping spark plugs? IE, what is the
correct gap distance?

Good Question! I found a reference to "The standard Gap" under "Spark Plug Gapping
Tools" in the Aircraft Spruce Catalog.
