    10:39:35 AM --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: lee.logan@gulfstream.com Great pictures! Sorry I couldn't be there. Many thanks again to Ken and James for the help with the minor problem on my bird last Friday. Worked on my baffles all day Saturday and think I may have found a fix to my "backwards" heating problem! Hottest cylinder never went above 395F even during slow speed/high power climb on the second test flight. Maybe I'm on to something, finally. P.S. We are running our prototype "Race to Ridgeland" next weekend and I am looking for potential "racers" to participate and help us develop our handicapping database. Handicapping a light plane race is a bit science and a bit dark art! If you'd like to join in the fun next Saturday morning (15 Oct), please contact me via email (lee.logan@gulfstream.com). I'm looking for as wide a variety of aircraft as I can get. The "course" is 129.5nm long and begins at Bamberg (99N), turns at St. George (6J2), runs to Allendale (88J), then to Plantation Air Park (JYL), and finally to Ridgeland (3J1). I'll be set up at my hangar at Ridgeland when you come in. We're hoping everyone can be on course by around 9:00am so the last plane will be in before 10:30 or 11:00 before it starts to get too bumpy. The whole point to the prototype "race" is to help us understand the handicapping challenge for the real race we plan to conduct at our First Annual Ridgeland Fly-In next spring. If you're interested in further details you can call me as follows: 912 965 4903 work 912 657 0236 cell 843 726 8800 home Lee...

    --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: James Clark <jclarkmail@gmail.com> Thanks for the compliment. Turns out (and I am about to share some our secrets :-) ), I was calling "gimme some", which means "hey lead, slow down, I can't keep up!!" and Bill misinterpreted that to mean MORE POWER in HIS ship (usually HE is flying #2 and when he says that he is ADDING power). :-) He was single person, I was two (note I told Nancy he was lighter, not that we were "heavier". :-) Fortunately #3 suggested a position swap for the pass, giving me some advantage on the inside of the turn. Of course, that require a lot more juice from him, so there is one shot where he is lagging just a bit. What I would like to get is a shot of all tires leaving the ground at the same time. Ken and I have practiced that enough now that we can pretty much get it within a second or two. KLKR is wide enough for a three ship take-off. KCUB (home for me) is wide enough only for a 2-ship. Again, thanks for the compliment though.     --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: James Clark <jclarkmail@gmail.com> Yeah Len, We missed ya!!!! How can we do a 4-ship when "4" is MIA??? :-) LKR is a good place to practice. Not much traffic, good vittles, wide runway (section take-off and landing practice), **AND** new FBO owners who encourage us to come and fly!!! Hard to beat I think. I suggest our next practice (and food gathering) be held there. James p.s. Bill, you will notice, I spilled the beans on our take-off. :-) On 10/7/05, bill crothers <bill28104@yahoo.com> wrote: > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: bill crothers <bill28104@yahoo.com > > > > as J. reminds us...pix don't lie. more practice is in > order for all..that includes Len > > --- BOB martin <libertyva@msn.com> wrote: > > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "BOB martin" > > <libertyva@msn.com> > > > > James, looks to me like #2...that be you! was > > lagging some but then in the > > next shot...was right in line....looked very good to > > me. > > I've never done 3 ship take-off....lots of 2 ships > > with Larry and his > > -6.....still learning but having a careful BLAST. > > Bob Martin > > RV-6 Louisa VA > > > > > > >From: James Clark <jclarkmail@gmail.com> > > >Reply-To: rvsoutheast-list@matronics.com > > >To: rvsoutheast-list@matronics.com > > >Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: LKR pics > > >Date: Fri, 7 Oct 2005 13:05:03 -0400 > > > > > >--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: James Clark > > <jclarkmail@gmail.com> > > > > > >The pictures are nice but #2 (that be me) is OUT OF > > POSITION! > > > I was a bit power challenged on takeoff. > > > But hey, on the two-ship arrival, I was right in > > position!! :-) > > > Again, thanks Radomir. > > > James > > > > > > > > > On 10/7/05, BOB martin <libertyva@msn.com> wrote: > > > > > > > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "BOB > > martin" <libertyva@msn.com> > > > > > > > > Thanks Radomir, > > > > I really liked the section take-off > > shots........:-) > > > > You did a nice job! > > > > Thanks > > > > Bob Martin > > > > RV-6 Louisa Va > > > > > > > > > > > > >--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: > > "Radomir Zaric" > > > > ><vitez@carolina.rr.com> > > > > > > > > > >I posted a few pics taken last weekend at LKR: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://www.vitez.net/rv7/lkr/ > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >Radomir > > > > > > > > > >-7A Fuselage > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >-- > > >This is an alternate email.     From: lee.logan@gulfstream.com
    05:07:19 PM --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: lee.logan@gulfstream.com That was my post and I had an odd situation. My front cylinders are the ones overheating. I may have had a case of "JPI Disease", but I don't really think so. Nevertheless, after I installed a JPI EDM-700, I observed high front cylinder temps. I also installed GAMInjectors (standard set for an IO-360) and upon testing got excellent "peak" results. All were within a half gallon/hour of each other. Front temps were still high, especially on full power, during climbs, and in slow flight. I re-sealed my baffles, checked for slag in the cylinder fins, added seals around the IO intake, fresh seals in the cooling air intake, and double checked the CHT and EGT probes were correctly connected (small propane burner torch works for EGT's). Boiled water (good ole hangar microwave---popcorn is not the only thing it is good for!). All CHT's read 212 F. Sooo... I was starting to think I'd have to go with an aftermarket plenum and rebaffle all over again. Everyone told me NOT to remove the baffles immediately in front of my front cylinders as that would upset the integrity of my whole "system". Only thing I could think of I hadn't done (other than starting all over with a new cowl/plenum/baffle set/etc.). Drilled out part of my front baffle plates (not the "ramps" that angle down to flow air in over the cylinders---the flat front plates that blank the front cylinders directly on most installations). Took off on a test flight expecting to be back on the ground within seconds with overtemped rear cylinders and voila!---the fronts were cooler and the rears stayed the same! Pulled the cowlings again and removed the remaining pieces of flat baffling and flew again. 60-70 cooler on number 1 and 40 cooler on number 2 (there is more I can remove on number 2). The rears stayed where they were. I hope I'm finished with this, but will probably try to remove a little more from number 2 the next time I have the cowl off. If it flys cool again this weekend (couldn't have been my imagination, could it???)---I'll be a happy guy! Every RV cooling intake I look in has these plates in place---don't know why mine is different. Does anyone have any ideas? Just keeping up with James and Ken is hard work for my airplane!! Lee

I am sure you will BLOW PAST both of us now (assuming you have fixed the gear leg fairing :-) ) James On 10/7/05, lee.logan@gulfstream.com <lee.logan@gulfstream.com> wrote: > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: lee.logan@gulfstream.com > > That was my post and I had an odd situation. --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: James Clark <jclarkmail@gmail.com> None in particular. Make sure the baffling is in place. Make sure there is not too much of a blockage ramp in front.
