We spent the night. Yesterday when we landed the winds were fine, but this
morning around 11:00 when we left they were 60 degree crosswind at 10 G 34.
Quite an interesting takeoff to say the least. Then very turbulent till be
cleared the mountains to the SE. At one point before we hit the big wind
sheer that gave us 2.5 + g and 0.0 - g, we had a 238 mph GS. After that I
slowed it down to about 140 ias/mph till clear of the mountains, we still
had about 195 mph. I guess the wind component was about 50 mph at 3,500'.
After the takeoff I'm glad we weren't landing at Ashe Co. No way I was
going to practice touch and go's. Landed at JQF with 5 knots.

I told Bill next time...
We had a nice flying day today as well, doing a lunch
run from Charleston to Jacksonville, FL. The weather
was absolutely beautiful, and the plane (a brand new
SR-22 GTS) was even better :)
And of course, it's hard to go anywhere w/o crossing
path with a two-ship RV formation (who were off our
wing, hugging the coastline, for a while)...
