Went down there two Saturdays ago and got a great reception. The FBO owner will cook free lunch, and the runway isn't in class E airspace, so formations, aerobatics, etc. are all allowed and encouraged by both the FBO and the neighbors. Anybody want to try it? We are looking for the good, the bad, and the ugly. First the good. We had great weather which brought out a lot of great airplanes. Including a number of RV's. Second, the bad. We had two "events" that could have moved to ugly very quickly. The first was a student pilot in a C-150 who pulled out and took off right in front of the landing DC-3. I wonder if he had to burry the pants he was wearing after the gooney bird flew 50 feet over his head. The second bad even was some idiot in a gyrocopter decided to take off and give an impromptu flight demonstration. This was a big issue for two reasons, the guy didn't have a radio so no one knew what he was going to do or when he was going to do it. This was taking place while people were landing and taking off. The guy just kept buzzing around at 500 feet between the runway and the down wind leg. All it would have taken was for an incident like what happened with the DC-3/C-150 to cause someone to run him over. He was also very lucky the FAA wasn't there when he was playing around or I think he would still be answering questions. There was a third bad event that almost went ugly, some boy ran within a few feet of a spinning prop. This did not happen in the Young Eagles area but rather in the main parking area. EAA 309 is working on better aircraft movement procedures for next year but would like to hear from you veterans. As for the Ugly, sun burns were about the worst of it. Again, your comments are more than welcome.
