My aircraft was extremely difficult to start and I blamed the throttle body for many months, based on the reported experience of one or two others. However, I must now say that I was totally in error. My IA recently discovered that my starting problem was a weak left mag. The capacitor lead had rubbed the housing and worn through the insullation. The left mag was shorted internally and wasn't providing the spark I needed for ignition. Since the mag problem has been corrected the airplane starts just fine. Some folks with the Ellison complain of difficult hot starts but I never really had that problem as long as I shut down with the mags instead of pulling the mixture back, per Ellison's suggestion. I guess I have no complaints and it is nice not to hear the engine caugh when doing acro. Flew Mike Bicks RV-4 Saturday and the engine/prop was smoother than the engine in my toyota car.... very frustrating!!!!!!!!
