Scott Keadle dropped in the other day said Ming was going with him but he would like to take me up in his Extra 300 if I could get to Rock Hill with someone else. Ben Burril called me on Friday and offered a seat in his RV-6. To top it off Barry Thigpen sent me an email offering a ride in his Giles 202. Ben flew into Gold Hill about 11:00 Saturday morning and inspected the RV-8 (getting real close to first flight) and we raced over to Rock Hill for hamburgers. The guy across the picnic table from me looked familiar... Turns out he is Gene Musslewhite, my squadron commander from George AFB. We flew F-105's together and I was one of his flight commanders when we started the first F-4G Wild Weasel squadron in 1979. Haven't seen Gene in 25 years and here he is the Airport Administrator at Rock Hill! Barry was strapping in his Giles while I strapped into the front seat of Scott's Extra and we were soon joined up on Barry's wing. Not too close because Barry was doing rolls and inverted flight most of the way to Shelby. I got to wring out the Extra for a few minutes before landing to straighten out my equilibrium enough to get into the Giles. Back into the air and Barry let me have my way with the "Primal Fear".. then he showed me how it is supposed to be done! Wow, what a roll rate! I've never flown an RV-6, and Extra or a Giles and I flew them all today. Thanks to Ben, Scott and Barry. You made my day. Ron Lowly RV-8 builder. I had a nice ride in Ron's RV-4 (a first for me). We investigated his vibration issue. It is peculiar, but not as severe as I thought from his previous descriptions, at least not from the back seat. It reminded me of the limitation I have on my prop to avoid 2000-2250 rpm. I inadvertently loitered in that range in my plane one day and it really got my attention. The pulses coming from the prop were very obvious. Ron's issue seems similar in nature, but less intense. I don't know if that will help with the collective diagnosis or not.... - Larry Bowen Larry@BowenAero.com http://BowenAero.com > -----Original Message----- > From: Ron Schreck [mailto:ronschreck@alltel.net] > Sent: Saturday, November 19, 2005 9:07 PM > To: RVSoutheast List > Subject: RVSouthEast-List: What a day! > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Ron Schreck" > --> > > I must have mentioned to someone that I didn't have a ride to > Rock Hill. She really enjoyed it and asked me to pass along her appreciation. (She kept her chunks to herself, for those who were wondering). It was good to see everybody.
