If you have not made that trip ... come with us next time .... the BBQ down there is fabulous ... and lots to choose from ..... only place I know that has better is Texas !!! (joke !!) Bill Crothers in AA, Len in LL, Larry in WN went down .... High overcast day and very smooth flying above 2000' ... great practice with Larry Bowen in Whiskey November flying the number 4 spot with a very small passenger in the back ... do wish I had a camera when they first loaded up ... James flew back seat with Larry to help talk him through some of the flight ... when Larry got in and closed the canopy ... the only thing we could see in the back seat was James' eyes .... booster seat please !!! Ken led us through a great practice ... Larry flew very well. Debrief and lunch at "The Pig" ... you just have to try it ... they offer 6 or 7 different types of bbq and then top it off with a small pig to pick from ... all you can eat !!! Larry had to depart early ... so James saddled up Pappa Juliet ... as soon as we started taxiing ... the rain came ... more rain on climb out and the wood props had to head for shelter ... Bill and I continued with the flight back to NC with Ken running advance protection for a few miles ... all in all another great day in the RV ... These flights come up pretty quick ... not a lot of advance planning ... any and all are welcome to come make the flight .. you don't have to fly formation ... that is something a few of us have fallen in love with .... just the fun of a gaggle of RVs heading somewhere for lunch is great ... we always have open back seats for the formation part if interested. Until next time .... 3's out !!! Len ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 07:41:24 AM PST US From: James Clark Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: Formation Practice Last Saturday --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: James Clark Len is "spot on" with the commentary here. You don't have to fly formation to join in on the fun. Talk about running for cover just in time. As I pulled up to the hangar, it started raining even more and I was able to get the plane in the hangar just in time to not get everything wet. The one downside of the tip-up is if you get caught out in the rain with the plane on the ground, stuff inside has a HIGH chance of getting wet. I am still working on sealing the seam where the tip up opens. And the wood prop (smooth, light, no RPM restrictions, BUT ...) ... anybody got a good deal on metal Sensenich 80"? :-) I think I said it somewhere before but Larry's 8 is *smooth*! I was waiting to hear the noise once when I said "more power!", "throttle up!" and he replied "I am!". And speaking of Larry, I can already see lots of improvement from earlier flights. He is approaching this stuff the right way .. with plenty of caution and safety kept in mind ... but steadily improving on the basics. Hey Mark ("Possum Works"), come join us one of the good weather planned Saturday outings. I am sure you will enjoy it. Besides there are a few more "tricks" I need to borrow from your plane! :-) The short notice get togethers can be augmented with some "planned way in advance" get togethers. We have talked about meeting at KLKR on at least one Saturday of the month. It's a great little place to gather and the Mrs. that is a co-owner there often whips up some vittles for those who stop by. This is the place that had the grill packed with London Broil on one of our visits there. Again, good time had by all. James ... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all who may read this.
