The complete RVSouthEast-List FAQ including these Usage Guidelines can be found at the following URL: http://www.matronics.com/FAQs/RVSouthEast-List.FAQ.html Thank you, Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator ****************************************************************************** RVSouthEast-List Usage Guidelines ****************************************************************************** The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the RVSouthEast-List. You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein. Failure to use the RVSouthEast-List in the manner described below may result in the removal of the subscribers from the List. RVSouthEast-List Policy Statement The purpose of the RVSouthEast-List is to provide a forum of discussion for things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established: - Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc. - THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it. - Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and responses. - Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address, aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary space in the archive. - DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the web page or FAQ first. - If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it easy to find threads in the archive. - When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive can not be overstated! - When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the "reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your response to the original poster. You might have to actively address your response with the original poster's email address. - DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large. - When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly contribute something valuable. - Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing. - Occassional posts by vendors or individuals who are regularyly subscribed to a given List are considered acceptable. Posts by List members promoting their respective products or items for sale should be of a friendly, informal nature, and should not resemble a typical SPAM message. The List isn't about commercialism, but is about sharing information and knowledge. This applies to everyone, including those who provide products to the entire community. Informal presentation and moderation should be the operatives with respect to advertising on the Lists. ------- [This is an automated posting.] ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:02:04 AM PST US From: "BOB MARTIN" Subject: RVSouthEast-List: FYI: cirrus SR-22 crash in NC --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "BOB MARTIN" Family and friends saddened by plane-crash death of couple Polyana da Costa @PensacolaNewsJournal.com The bodies of a Pensacola couple killed when their private airplane crashed in the North Carolina mountains were found Friday morning. Tommy Marshall, 55, president of Energy Systems Air Conditioning Co. on South Fairfield Drive, and his wife, Veronica, 50, died instantly Thursday afternoon when their plane crashed into the side of a mountain, said Col. Bob Bauer of the Civil Air Patrol in Asheville, N.C. ?We saw them on the 23rd when we had an office party and they were happy as always,? said Helen Billy, bookkeeper for the 40-employee company for more than 20 years. ?They treated all of our employees like family and, to them, family was the most important thing in life. The Marshalls had owned their business since 1982. Their two sons ? Danny, 33, and Randy, 30 ? also worked there. The sons became concerned when their parents, who left Pensacola on Sunday for their vacation home in Maggie Valley, N.C., did not return as expected Thursday afternoon and could not be reached by cell phone or radio communication, said Richie Harmell, a longtime friend of the couple. ?It takes about 2 1/2 hours to get here,? he said. ?So after 8 or 9 hours they were really worried. So they called for a search and drove there. They were hoping for the best, but they had a feeling something had happened.? The Cirrus SR22, piloted by Tommy Marshall, took off about 12:30 p.m. from the Jackson County Airport in Cullowhee, N.C., according to North Carolina officials. A Civil Air Patrol aircraft found the wreckage a few miles south of the airport. Bauer said police received two reports from people who heard an airplane engine sputter and then heard the crash, but no one saw the plane go down. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash, a process that could take months. Tom McClure, chairman of the Jackson County Airport Authority, said he knew the Marshalls. They used the small airport when they visited their Maggie Valley home about 30 miles north of the airport. ?Their plane was fairly new and really up-to-date. We were sad to hear the news,?? he said. ?The weather was really overcast when they left, but we really don?t know what happened at this point.? Harmell said Tommy Marshall was ?a very cautious pilot.?? ?I still don?t know how that could have happened,? he said. ?Was there an engine failure, a mechanical failure? Was it the fog, the wind? I don?t know. ?What I know is (Veronica) would never let him fly unless it was a clear sky, and I know he was very cautious about that. So we?re waiting for the answers.? The Marshalls had owned the plane for about two years and previously had owned another plane, Harmell said. ?That plane is a new model,? Bauer said. ?It?s composite-built, not metal, and it has a built-in parachute. Composite is the way they?re building airplanes now because metal is so expensive, and it?s lighter and very strong.? The Marshalls? heat and air conditioning company will remain closed for about a week, Billy said. She said the two sons, who were still in North Carolina on Friday afternoon, will lead the business left by their parents. ?It?s a family-oriented business,?? she said. ?I?m sure they will take care of it.? First Call --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: James Clark OK all SERV'ers and lurkers .... it is time to start thinking about the trip to Lakeland on January 13th. Current big picture for some is that there will be a stop made in Columbia (KCUB) by probably Len and Bill (+passengers?) to join up with Ken, Patty and James (+passenger). From there fly to KLAL with a potential stop along the way for cheap fuel. Last time a group of us stopped in Alma, GA (KAMG?) for same. A few questions: 1. Who else in "IN" for the approach?? 2. If you are IN, do you have any time constraints on getting to Columbia? 3. If you are IN, do you want/need to stop enroute for cheap fuel? Please note, although some of us **may** fly as a "flight", there is NO need to fly "formation" to come along at the same time. We are going "same way, same day". Since we would have several of us though we WOULD brief the overall flight so that even if you are 5 miles back you know what is going on and on what frequency to reach everyone. The idea is to make it a FUN trip. So again to get this started ... 1. James (RV6) 2. Ken (RV6) 3. Bill (RV8) <----- NOTICE THAT!! 4. Len (RV8A) James p.s. Sue & I really enjoyed meeting you all. I'll certainly keep an eye on the mail list & try to join you for some formation practice. We had a somewhat interesting trip home. In fact, it's now mid-day Monday, & I just got the 6A back into its hangar! I decided to make a fuel stop at an airport northwest of Savannah. As soon as we took off, heading southeast, we ran into rain & low visibilty. Even at 1000' I was running out of options. I climbed through a hole high enough to call Savannah approach for an IFR clearance. They cleared me direct to Eagle Neck, only 50 nm away. It was solid IMC all the way - Sue really hates flying in cloud! They brough me down to 1600' approaching Eagle Neck, but I couldn't see a thing - no instrument approaches at Eagle Neck. Only option was to divert to Savannah for the ILS. Got the airplane tied down, borrowed a crew car, drove home 45 minutes, drove back with our car & the crew car, then drove back home. Wanted to stop for something to eat, & a much needed drink. Forgot it was Sunday & a lot of the counties around here have no alcohol on Sunday. Arghh!! Lay awake half the night listening to thunderstorms & hoping the 6A was OK. Drove to Savannah - the weather was still questionable. Called FSS & they said no way. Thunderstorms with 60 mph wind & 2 inch hail possible any time. Pleaded with the FBO (Signature) for some shelter for the 6A. They finally put us in the corner of a big hangar, with the proviso that I'd have to get out if the usual occupant returned. Of course the worst of the weather stayed just north & west of Savannah - we just got rain. Three hours later FSS was still saying "VFR not recommended", but it looked clear to the south, & radar seemed to confirm it. Clearance delivery said the field was IFR, but I got a special VFR clearance & had an uneventful 15 minute ride home. Looks like we are going to get more thunderstorms this afternoon, so I'm glad I took that window. I hope our next meeting will be less exciting! I thought I could see a cloud on the horzion on the way back yesterday, but I didn't think it amounted to all that. Glad it all worked out in the end. We left about 15 minutes before the RV's did (I didn't know the RV's were there till we took off and I saw the line of 'em too late to dig out my camera). Larry blew by us when we were near Rockingham speedway and landed at 8A7 about 10 minutes before we did. We were smokin' along at 138 mph (per my G296) on 16 gph... Granted, we had 4 people and maybe 125 lbs luggage, but two RV's still would have used less fuel between them and gone way faster! Dana Breda RV-6 at 8A7
