I'm flying both the G3 and the Dynon. Both have advantages and
disadvantages. Do you plan any IFR and what radios/GPS are you using?
(May be easier to discuss off list; I'm just one opinion.)

      Hi guys,

I am assuming that the bi-annual transponder and static system check
needs to be accomplished before I have the final FAA inspection on my
new RV-8. If so, can any of you direct me to someone who wouldn't mind
traveling to Gold Hill Airpark to do this for me at a reasonable rate?

Perhaps I can get the final inspection without having the transponder
check if I don't fly anywhere a transponder is required or if I just
don't have the transponder installed??? Give me your $00.02.

I didn't have mine checked until almost a year after the first flight.
The DAR didn't even mention it. When I had it done (full IFR check) I
had to take the RV to the shop to get it done.

My FAA inspector was indifferent about it. Suggest to your inspector that
it be done after you can fly to a apt with that service. I did mine at
      8A7.

Im getting ready to add some upgrades to my panel and one of the items Im considering
is the Blue Mountain EFIS/Lite G3. Is there anyone on the list who is flying
with one of these or knows someone who is? I would really appreciate some
      feed back on this unit.

      Hi Wayne,

Some of the guys want to keep it on the list, however I have limited typing
ability due to my bilateral "CTS", so if it's getting long send me you phone
      # and a good time to call you and we can talk.

      I'm looking for the G3 to provide the following functions;

      1. Second ADI
      2. HSI/RMI
      3. CDI for GX60 & SL30

I've been reading a lot of the discussions on the matronics and other sites,
however I'm looking for some real flying experience with the unit. Since
you have the G3 and the Dynon you can provide a unique perspective and
      comparison of both units.

Do you use your units for ILS/GS? If so how to they compare?

      Curtis

I'll email you my phone number directly. I certainly agree with keeping
things on the list. The delete button is easy to use, if needed!
Briefly, I have found the Dynon to be a far superior ADI than the G3. It is
smoother and faster to respond. My G3 needs resetting on startup sometimes
but not the Dynon. I like the numeric heading readout on the G3 ADI as well
as the ribbon and wish the Dynon had that; otherwise, Dynon ADI all the way.
I think the G3 ADI is good as a backup for IFR and primary VFR but would not
recommend it as primary IFR. The EHSI is really neat on the G3 and has a
unique feature, a virtual VOR. It allows the unit to use its own GPS to
      mimic a VOR.
The unit will work great with the SL30, including the VOR indications. The
external VOR inputs have been a real problem interfacing with other units
for the G3. For example it will not accept my Garmin 430 outputs. (Should be
fixed with next software upgrade.) Unfortunately you will not be able to
transfer any flightplan data from the GX30 to the G3 to show up on the
moving map. You would also need to install a separate switch to select which
input to the CDI(HSI)if you want GPS (GX60) or VOR (SL30) indications.
(Definitely want an annunciator light so you don't think it's localizer and
      be GPS.)
Customer support for both has been excellent, but BMA had more problems than
expected at release. There are slowly working through them, though.

      I'll stop there.

      Wayne

Ron I just had Tom from Piedmont Hawthorne at the Monroe County Airport do my check.
He was Great. Also I left a gallon of R/C engine fuel outside your hanger
door I think is still good. I also left the cut off disk just inside your
      door.

I agree with Cappy. Also I had my Pitot/Static system checked for leaks and accuracy.

      Ron:
If you are outside the Vail of class B then you can fly the plane with the
transponder OFF until you get it certified.(watch your operating limitations)

You can only use the transponder/encoder while it is in certification.
The guy at Ashboro did me a great and reasonable job on my transponder check
and he is close to you. Air Associates, Jerry Jeffers I think is his name.
There is quite a few others around, RUQ, Carolina Avionics, Spitfire
Aviation in Concord, Lou Vasquez at Wadesboro, and the guys at Twin Lakes and
      the
      guys at Monroe.
I saw him today at Goose Creek doing a RV6a cert.

      Ron:
If yours is not signed off it aint certified. Dont fly under class B
      airspace. Get it certified.
The guy from Monroe was at the creek today.
Remember, its a Part 91 rule to have a transponder/encoder on while flying
under class B airspace. And to have it certified while using it.

Ron, the folks at Ashboro did my transponder check for $65. Also sent me a
card reminding that it was in need to the two year check up. Nice flight up
and there is a nice small museum on the field
