Hi Guys,
The report on the Bell Tail Wheel Fork is very good. I like it a lot.
Yesterday I made about 6 landings with a 10K wind pretty much down the
runway. Unless you are holding a bit of rudder at touchdown it tracks very
well. Short folks like me will love the new attitude. The three inches
adds a great view over the nose. One interesting note is that the old stick
push to get the tail up on takeoff is gone. It must be the new angle of
attack of the horizontal stabilizer. With stick neutral the tail comes up
almost by itself. No GIB in the back though.

Thanks Cappy for the review, I really liked the looks and already have ordered
2, so Larry and I will have them soon I hope. The Threads in Doug's site have
been good reading as well. Who knew so much thought went in the tail wheel.
My hats off to the "Bell's" for improving the RV's.
ps.....I liked the looks of the one Larry Bowen got for his RV-8 too....both way
better than hooking our tails on a concrete slab. The post about another RV
guy tearing out the last two bulkheads in the tailcone got my attention.

No, Stormy, I think that you are absolutely correct....Any instrument pilot
better be extremely proficient flying the plane without A/P on an approach
or any other segment of the flight for that matter...there is always the
case where the A/P failed...ya know...I agree with you 100%.

Hi Larry,
The reasons for my upgrade are pretty simple, I plan to start doing more
traveling with the RV8 and though it would be nice to have ILS capability
along with altitude hold capability. My current setup is a GX60 IFR
Approach certified GPS and an SL70 transponder. In addition to the standard
vacuum AI and DG I've been using a PCEFIS unit on one of my iPAQ's as a
backup AI and I run control vision map & pocket plates on the other iPAQ.
I have a RMI microMonitor and RMI micro Encoder as instrumentation and a
Navaid autopilot.
My upgrade consists of a GMA340 audio panel with marker beacon for the ILS,
a SL30 Nav/Com, a Blue Mountain G4 and the new TruTrak ADI II.
Since I will be moving the GX60 from the center of the panel I decided I
wanted a separate CDI for the SL30, so this is where the Blue Mountain G4
comes in. The new G4 will act as the HSI/CDI for the SL30 and GX60 and be a
second AI. The TruTrak ADI II will act as primary AI and also provide
altitude hold. I like my Navaid autopilot but the TruTrak combination of AI
& autopilot won me over. With the addition of two electronic AI's I can do
away with my vacuum system.
The only decisions I have left to make are weather or not I'm going to keep
my steam gauge altimeter and airspeed indicator. The altimeter and the
airspeed are duplicated in the RMI microEncoder the G4 and GPS. Since I use
the LRI for landing the airspeed on the RMI microEncoder and G4 will be more
than adequate for take off and approaches.
Curtis
