David,
Thanks for the up date. Glad to here we were not alone. Remember, the BBQ
fly in at Asheville on March 18. Maybe I get the chance to meet all of you
eastern NC RVers. After you have eaten the BBQ here you may make AVL one of
your favorite fly in restaurants.
See you all!

Ah, now I remember. This is tool I meant to reply with earlier.
http://bowenaero.com/pix/amproratchet-.jpg
Found it in the bargain bin at Advance Auto for $2.99 or something. One
side will drive a 1/4" socket, the other will receive a 1/4" bit. Less than
4" overall length. I've used it often to get into tight spots. It stays in
the travel tool kit.
....
Supposedly my plane will be ready by the end of the week.

Hi Guys,
My strakes came today so I did a test. It was rough at 3000' so I could not
see much difference in the stall speed but did find that the shutter/ shake
was almost gone, just very little tail shutter. Also on the only full
stall landing I did there was no shutter at all. If you make 3 point
landings and full stall landings I think you know what I mean by shutter.
Maybe Cappy's Toy is worse than other 8's but I don't think so. Anyway it
seems almost gone.
I taped them in place with double sided tape from Home Depot and the Bowen
duck tape method on the edge along the fuselage. This worked fine and was
100% in place after the landing and easy to remove. More to follow when I
find some smooth air. If anyone wants to try them out just let me know, I
probably won't install them till after the Fuel Tank Bulletin is complied
with.

Looks like June 17, with a rain date of June 24. How's that grab everyone?
I'm thinking ribs this year instead of barbecue, maybe? BBQ was good last year,
maybe even better than in the Carolinas ;-) but Miriam wowed me with some really
fabulous ribs recently, and if I can figure a way to cook them in the quantities
necessary... we'll do it.
Please set aside the day.

Dumb question, why SS? I bought a bunch of carbon steel cap screws that
I plan on using around the plane and on the fuel tanks, should I not use
these?

Cappy,
I also installed my tank inspection plates with 8-32 SS socket head cap
screws. Have had to re-torque screws a couple of times to stop a weeping
leak. I was very conservative when torturing the screws originally to
avoid distorting the cork gasket. What has worked well for me is a small
ratchet tool handle that accepts various screwdriver heads. Hex head
drivers are also available that will fit the Allen head cap screws. It
is easy to judge the torque applied using this tool set up and easy to
get at the tank inspection plates with the fairings remove. Dale Ensing
