FYI. Something I read this morning on the internet.
DAR Tim Mahoney of St. Cloud, Minn., called the FAA about the issue,
according to VAF-MN chief Doug Weiler. "The FAA said youre responsible to
maintain the aircraft in an airworthy condition. If youre flying an
airplane with a known safety deficiency, youre not complying with the
letter of the law," Doug reported.
Mahoney also sought and got clarification from the EAAs Joe Norris which
said, the mandatory service bulletin issues by kit vendors are not by
themselves legally binding. However, other aircraft are required to be
operated in a condition for safe operation. The SB must not be ignored. The
operator must respond in some fashion . The manner in which this is
addressed is up to the builder. Simply following the guidelines are the best
way, but they are not legally binding. If youre confident you can defend
your claim that the aircraft is operating in a safe condition, then approach
it accordingly.

Hi folks, thought I would give you an up date before it got too late. It's almost
9:00 PM and apparently the truck driver is still on the road or doesn't
plan to call until tomorrow. I had though he was to call ( and he may yet) so
we could arrange timing for tomorrow, but so far - no call. Call their dispatch
office but no luck there either.
My son-in-law and family are going to come early, so I'll have his assistance
regardless. Bottom line, if I hear anything before midnight, I'll post it.
So don't change any plans (unless of course you're using helping me as an excuse
to get out of doing something less enjoyable {:>)), you may have made. I
figure the truck driver can also help- if he wants to get unloaded.
Appreciate all the offers. Stop bye during the week and if you have an apple
core, I might let you put bolts into holes.

Ok, Cappy. I've made several calls to the freight company dispatchers - but
apparently they do not work on weekends or have anyone on call. Sorry,
'bout this, sort of irritates me a bit seeing as how it does not cost a
fortune to make a phone call nowadays.

What is this fuel tank SB. I checked Van's site and checked with
several RV owners at EAA chapter meeting yesterday. We are familiar
with the one securing the pickup tube to avoid rotation but that was
several years ago.

I want to thank those of you who offered to help unload the hangar. As of 1800
hours Sunday, no hangar and no word from the freight company as to what the
problem may be. Rather irritated that no call was made, but nothing I could do
about it today - but, tomorrow is another day (and its Monday).
So again thanks

This is a real concern of mine that Vans expects us to learn this stuff on
our own. When I had my Cardinal SBs were mailed to all registered owners.
One could easily argue they never heard of the SB.--- There. I feel better.
