I have just posted this on the Vansairforce Forum but thought I would
      ask this knowledgeable crowd.

I'm at the point where I need to do something with the TW stinger
(spring) and bracket but I'm not sure what.

Realizing that the TW spring will see some abuse (rocks, grass, dirt,
etc) and get scratched, dented, and what have you. Should I paint the
thing or have it powder coated?

What is the best form of protection?

(For the record, I have already spoken to an IA about baking the TW
spring and he doesn't think it will be an issue.)

      Thanks for the help.

      Bill,
Powder coating is just another form of painting. The application technique
is the difference. The applied product is still a paint. Like liquid
applied coatings, a powder coating can be quite brittle and susceptible to
chipping . The performance criteria you are looking for is "impact
resistance" wither it is a powder coating or a liquid applied coating.
Suggestion: consider one of the "bumper coatings" for automobile facades to
get resistance to chipping from impacts of runway debris.

      Bill,

Mine is painted. No problems with paint chiping. Keep in mind, that
powder coating (which will also chip) is a real pain in the you know what
if you ever need to sand it down and repaint or recoat it (ask me how I
      know).

If you paint it, the color will match the rest of the plane. I doubt that
you would be able to match the color by power coating.

Besides, a plane without any scratches or paint chips is never flown and
      must be a museum piece.

Alma. Yes, that's it. We fueled there last year. A check of up-to-date fuel
prices on AirNav is in order, to be sure.

As for formation, a gaggle is all I'm doing with an in-air briefing. A ground
brief I consider essential to formation work, and I don't really want to maintain
tight formation all the way to Florida - why stress out when x/c can be so
relaxing otherwise! Let's aim for a loose enroute and enjoy the radio comraderie
and the scenery. That's my vote anyway.

Therer are a number of RVs in the Wilmington area. I for one fly a RV-4, two
other 4s on the field( STAG PARK 7NC1). Stag Park is located about 20 mi.
      north of Wilmington.

Check out the local EAA Chapter http://www.eaa297.org/

I'm considering it; there may be a sportscar for sale nearby that I need to look

Promise, I'll only drive it on Sundays.

BTW I looked at a 1988 Panther (British) this past week with only 6500

I am Stormy. Come see us. And you can even keep that sports car in my garage

Promise, I'll only drive it on Sundays.

BTW I looked at a 1988 Panther (British) this past week with only 6500

No, but I'm not into cars really. Looking for a Miata for the wife, who's wanted
such a toy for about 10 years (I'm kinda slow).

He's got one more looker ahead of me coming tonight; we'll see if it's still on
      the market come morning.

Bill I used a product for the undercarriage of my 1950 pickup truck. It is
self leveling and applied with a brush. It is called POR15. Auto
restoration groups have it. It is flexible and forms a strong bond. It can
be applied over rust and will not rust again as it seals out moisture and
      air.

I used the POR15 on my kit car. Great stuff, but it's not UV stable. (It's
      much heavier than paint.)

Bill I used a product for the undercarriage of my 1950 pickup truck. It is
self leveling and applied with a brush. It is called POR15. Auto
restoration groups have it. It is flexible and forms a strong bond. It can
be applied over rust and will not rust again as it seals out moisture and
      air.

I'm considering it; there may be a sportscar for sale nearby that I need to look

Update: car I was eyeing was just sold; wx outlook not too good; Stormy is standing
down for now... Saturday is looking more like a day to work on the hangar

Forgive me for using this for non RV info but I'm sure some of you on this
      list can advise me..........
I need to purchase a new battery for my IBM ThinkPad T21 laptop. Where is
best place to buy? Spent an hour shopping the internet last night for a
battery and saw prices from $65 to $120 for 3600 mah battery. Not sure I
      trust the low prices.
      Any advice would be appreciated.

      Thanks Len ....

      A **reminder** to ALL ...

WE will be having our get together Saturday. See the info from the webite:
      http://www.eaa242.org/

We expect LOTS of RVs if the weather is good.

Plenty of food will be available. Also expect a bit of formation practice to
be held by some of the participants.

We'd love to have you down.
