Good point on the winds, James. That was one of the reasons we wanted to
limit the race window to just one or two hours, to make conditions for
everyone as reasonably close as we could. The rest of the difference was
to have been made up for by "airmanship", i.e. who was best at picking
conditions that were most favorable during even that narrow window:
Smoothest time to fly, most favorable winds, best visibility, best
altitudes to climb to between turns, etc.
Btw, I may be ready to take you up on your suggestion about on-board GPS
systems for the race. Just haven't figured out how to get them to the
competitors prior to the race yet.
Thanks again, Palmetto Flight. The crowd really did enjoy your show---the
applause was genuine, there was a lot while you were flying your routine
too! Maybe next year I can get someone in my back seat with a video camera
and we can get some footage of your routine.

James, you can put it up on my .mac account... they just auto-renewed
it for me, so I have no qualms about using their bandwidth. I'm not

Re: "Smoke on the ramp" ...
It was a test.
We planned (and did) a "smoke out" after we taxiied back in each time at th=
e
actual routines. During practice that was the only time we used smoke so as
to save it.
The idea is for the smokers to run up to 1200-1500 RPM on my call and
"smoke" for say 3 seconds. Then run the engine to clear it all out for a fe=
w
more seconds then we all shut down. Just something for the crowd if the
logistics allow it.
Worked out OK I think.
Do you have smoke yet??? :-) {It is a safety item you know. :-)

No smoke for me yet. If I could build it into the wing like Kuhuna did, I
would do it. Add/remove a container from elsewhere seems like it would be a
hassle. Maybe not. Len? It's a safety item that's slated for the next
plane...

Where is the camp ground at Lumberton? Do you camp with your plane? Went the
first day last year and they had me park in tall grass with deep ruts on the
far, far side of the airport when there were only about a dozen airplanes!
Not sure I want to go there again.

We had a great spot last year. On the NE part of the airport if I =

I plan to go Friday eve. In time to get there before 7:30 field close. I
had hotel plans with a friend from Twin Lakes, but they may be falling
through. Camping will be plan B. Should know more about that and GIB
status tomorrow.
