He told me he had purchased your RV-4. Offered him a place to stay when he came down to pick it up but his plan was to head north the same day. Sounds like he didn't make it out the same day. --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Ron and Shannon AWAD" <sawad13@msn.com> No he didn't! Barry Thigpen picked Jeery and his friend up at Charlotte Douglas Tuesday morning and took them to Goose Creek where he looked the plane over and then we attempted to fly it to Monroe, but the ceilings were just too low so we went back to Goose Creek and left the plane and went to lunch. After lunch we tried to fly to Monroe again but like before it was IFR towards Monroe and Marginal at Goose Creek, but improving towards Concord, so we flew over to Concord. Jerry needed to be checked out in the plane - he had never flown a RV before as far as I know - so Concord was better than Goose Creek with low ceilings and a 30 foot wide short runway. We did some takeoffs and landings with me in front then Jerry in front at Concord and then called it quits as he was doing pretty good without my help. Jerry had the tanks topped off and went inside to look at the weather - which was only good to the North, but not good enough to cross the mountains VFR. He elected to stay in Concord and wait for the storm and clouds to clear out. That happened yesterday some time and he must have hauled ass home as he was at his hangar before dark there with the plane. Thanks to all who have taken the time to RSVP about the fly-in. I know it's a hassle, and I'm always reluctant to ask you to do it, but it helps me know how many non-leaking inner tubes I need to have on hand and how much food to order. Also, if helps to know if anyone important is coming, so we can spend extra energy getting the place straightened up ;-) So far, it looks like we have 11 planeloads inbound, plenty to have a great time of fellowship and fun. That's just RV folks, not counting the local airport crowd and the few friends and neighbors who aren't aviators but drive over to take part. Tad, I'm not counting you in the tally until I check those references in more detail. By coinicidence, all the references who sent letters on your behalf left out the "c" when they spelled "excellent," so I'm checking further into your background. Hope that's okay. I'm a bit concerned about river levels (we may just convert the tubing to a skinny-dip down at the swimmin' hole) but really looking forward to the sound of a busy pattern and the smell of avgas around here... -Stormy ________________________________________________________________________

He told us about his early flying, got his private @ 17, went on to get his commercial, instrument, CFI, CFII, Multi-engine, all while young. He owned an Apache, and may have owned some others, I am not sure. He was in Rock Hill at some political fund raising event and when he was back at the airport, he saw that there was a lot of activity. He queried someone, they said the EAA chapter was flying Young Eagles, and that they were having a BBQ on the other side of the airport. I sold my C172 and am now part owner of a Supercub (had to harvest some dough for an engine). ~175nm at 70kts is going to make a long ride in an airplane that is not much of a cross country machine. Hope to see everyone there. You have a great place and the river tubing is great fun. By the way, what is the identifier for your strip? The info left with the GPS in the C172. Craig

Glad to have you, Dave. Any time you want, really. Arrive early, you get to help set up stuff ;-) Might even find yourself assigned to a lawn mower... Arrivals usually heat up about 10:30, and I think we'll aim to eat at 12 o'clock. I'll announce some more firm times and additional info like freq's, etc. later next week. -----Original Message----- From: David Davenport <ddavenport5@nc.rr.com> Sent: Thu, 15 Jun 2006 21:22:14 -0400 Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: Re: Stormy's fly-in head count Stormy, my wife and I are planning on trying to make it this year.
