--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: Bill Repucci <one4fun@mindspring.com> Carter, I use the same stuff but prep slightly different. What I have found causes it to flake off is moisture. This week I painted some parts in the basement and other outside. The parts I did outside were dry until I brought them outside, then moisture condensed on them, which cause the SEM to come right off. Just make sure the parts are dry and you won't have any problems. --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: Bill Repucci <one4fun@mindspring.com> Carter, I don't think these emails are going to the group, thus the private replies. When it happened to me the other night I just scotchbrited the parts and painted them. If it is a skin or a part that can't be replaced easily, I go through my normal prep routine. BTW, acetone will take that primer right off. My routine, and by no means the best but it is easy and seems to work is: Scotchbright the parts Alumniprep them Wait three minutes +/- Wash with water Alodine them Wait three minutes +/- Wash with water Go to bed Sleep eight hours (Ok, maybe more like six or seven) Get up, go to the basement and paint everything (which should be dry by now.) Shower, eat breakfast, go to work, come home, eat dinner, go work on the plane, repeat for three years. Bill PS. Larry, I like your paint job. Bummer it won't work on a -9. Also, I forgot to look at your panel on Saturday to see the washers you used to hold it in. -----Original Message----- >From: Carter Wright <cartaire@hotmail.com> >Sent: Jun 16, 2006 2:26 PM >To: rvsoutheast-list@matronics.com >Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: EAA 1083 Poker Run Sat. > >--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Carter Wright" <cartaire@hotmail.com> > >Thanks Bill and Larry - > >what do you think I should do now? does it all need to come off, or just >the portion that is lifting away? > >re-scotchbrite, clean, and prime? > >Bill - what is your prep? > >Carter > > > > > > >

--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "tadsargent" <tadsargent@bellsouth.net> If I may throw my .02 worth in. Don't use naphtha. Use lacquer thinner or the better choice is a Prep Sol aka wax and grease remover found at NAPA. It is pricey though $35/Gal. Worth it though, 1 gallon will do 1 airplane and then some inside and out.
