For those of you with the Dynon, might want to check out this free firmware
upgrade. It adds a DG! Now that's product support!

Steve,
Kathy and I are going to KCUB on Saturday to see James and get a couple
of formation training flights. Then we're off for BBQ for lunch. Want
to join us? Kathy doesn't want to do the formation flights so she will
be sitting them out. Lynn can come keep her complany until lunch time.
We're meeting James at 10 AM.

hey, just a thought from a RV wannabe...since I have had some
formation/aerobatic/carrier landing ex[erience, and also instructed in advanced
Naval Aviator
training, maybe ai can be of some help to others in your community. As a 62

expect to attempt a purchase of a suitable plane...looking at these web

John,
I am chomping at the bit to post a sarcastic reply, however, in the
spirit of friendship from one RV lover to another... We hope you will
come to one of our gatherings. There is often a back seat (or side
seat) open and we are itching to get you pointed towards that RV
purchase (as long as the third wheel is on the correct end). Welcome to
the forum and come fly with us.

Well Ron's reply generates a few ?'s...why the hesitance for a sarcastic
response? ( I woud hope this from some sense of fraternalistic competition
maybe?...and that would be fine!)
...simply...I am totally ignorant of your guy's "club"...I only have info
gained form my observing the internet to-and-from---which can be very misleading!
to Ron...I was a very Sierra Hotel pilot in in my own mind, and we all
know how annoying those types are!..including your's truly!)...but formation
flying...sharing the 3-dimensional envelope...and precision aerobatics/tactics
are a special interest of mine...I am getting internal stirrings propelling me
to revist these wonderful sensations!...I hope to find you guys and quell
these surging emotions....I come as a friend!...please stay in contact! JOHN
SHERM, Wilmington NC...(ps..had a WONDERFUL "cold" call to Dr Perritt a few wks

OK, Ron S...just where is that 3rd wheel best placed??!! Seriously..this tail
dragger "thing" is so much mentioned, but rarely discussed re: specifics of
technique....
...so, do you really just "land" on that tail...(hell!...we almost did
that every time on the carrier!)...seriously...I need to REALLY investigate
whether a tail-dragger/tricycle gear is my best solution!...seems like many are
deterred from the tail dragger configuration...can this added skill be learned

It can be learned by anyone capable landing one with the wheel up front.
RV's about 1/2 tailwheel and about 1/2 nosewheel by count. There is always
"friendly chatter" about which is best. In the end they are ALL RV's and fun
to fly. So except for when you are approach/rolling on/departing
from/taxiing near runways, they are all the same. :-)
As Ron mentioned, just raise a hand when you hear about people flying around
and you will most likely find that there is a seat available. A word of
caution though ... DO NOT let them convince you to take the stick for a few
minutes!! If you do, it is ALL OVER. You have been warned!! Don't say we
didn't tell you so. :-)

The funny point is that the tail guys have as many hours as the rest of

We have 7-8 that are really interested in formation.
2 recently took checkrides and passed for formation "cards"
2 that are likely to take checkrides soon
3 coming up the line
1-2 "maybe later's"
On the aerobatics side the numbers might be about the same but with some
different players.
