I hope you get that RV and we can meet at 10,000-feet, nose-to-nose and call "fights on" or do some formation aerobatics. I honestly don't miss the fighters. My RV-8 provides all the thrill I need. I have several friends who never flew in the military and their formation skills are superb! If they just knew the "lingo" and were a lot more stupid they could pass for Tom Cruise! ;-) As for nosewheel vs tailwheel: The performance figures are so close that it really boils down to personnal choice. I have a tailwheel and my home base is a 30-foot wide paved strip. Landings are always a challenge but I like that. And I'm no spring chicken either! Stay in touch. John, his plane's looks almost make up for his own. He's right about the "no spring chicken" part. -Stormy always ready for a good verbal battle ;-) Y'all fly safe today. Full steam ahead with (driving) vacation prep here this weekend. -----Original Message----- Sent: Sat, 15 Jul 2006 7:30 AM John, I'm an ex-USAF fighter pilot, thus the temptation to do verbal battle (always with tongue-in-cheek). My wife worked for the air taxi service at WSS when she was a teenager. A job I would have loved when I could only dream about airplanes! LWB is not only very nice but there is very little traffic. Do have to keep up with the executive jets occasionally but the RV holds its own. A nice flying destination for a weekend jaunt with a restaurant in the terminal. I like "Stormy" for you too. Kinda gives you the image of energy to burn! (I take it you'll fly into LWB, nice place and longest rwy in WV). Enjoy your dinner. Call me anything you like; I've gotten so used to "Stormy" it feels like I've always had the nickname now... :-) -Stormy ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 06:53:20 AM PST US From: Robbie Walker Subject: RVSouthEast-List: Dr. John... --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: Robbie Walker Dr. John, Speaking as another wannabe, I'd encourage you to visit any of the gatherings that get posted here. This group has some of the friendliest, nicest folks I've ever met. I've dropped in on a couple of their get-togethers in N. Myrtle Beach and several have been to EAA flyins that I've helped with. Really a fine bunch of folks. I was recently transferred here to Wilmington myself, which threw a bit of a kink into my plans, but I'm back on track again. My wife and I closed on our home yesterday and this one is being built with an attached airplane workshop... err... 2-car garage! So it looks like I may get started next year after all! Unfortunately, I'm in the second phase of this development so It'll probably be over a year before we get moved in. Until then I'm living in an apartment like I was in college again! Maybe we'll run into each other sometime... after we get settled in, I'll be renting out at ILM. Also, if you know any AMEs in the area that you'd recommend, I'd appreciate a heads up, my medical is out and I need to get it renewed. Call me any time. I'd love to meet another RV enthusiast. That goes for everyone else, too!
