I believe mods have been made for skis and golf clubs to fit partway back through the aft baggage bulkhead on 6's and 7's. This might help keep the CG within bounds. Those models are somewhat tail-heavy unless packing the bigger engines and C/S props. Might find the listing of particular specimens of RV's and their CG data on Doug Reeves' site as a good starting point for some back-of-napkin computations on CG and loading possibilities. Better probably to copy an existing golf club compartment design from someone who's done it to their flying RV and proven it in the field. _Stormy -----Original Message--From: bill@repucci.com Sent: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 8:29 PM Doc, Knowing you want to play fighter pilot (again) from time to time, the RV-10 and it's back seat won't work for you. Some of the two place RV's, mostly -6,7, & 9's have been modified by extending the upper portion of the baggage compartment to accept a golf bag. However, knowing the tendency of the 7's to be tail heavy, I doubt I would want to stick even a light bag that far aft. I don't know about the W&B of the -6's. For your purposes, the -9 is out as it is not acro capable. Most sellers will mention the mod as a selling point. As for putting a bag in a standard baggage compartment, I haven't tried to fit my clubs in there but doubt they would fit. However, if flying alone, it is easy enough to remove the right stick (usually they just pull out) and right seat back, thus giving you enough room to bring your clubs along. Your golfing partner will have to walk though. Have you found any RV's you are interested in? Bill -----Original Message----- Sent: Monday, July 24, 2006 10:19 PM I'm sure I'll regret this....but, in between small details such as oil temps, and spin restrictions...can you fit a modern set of golf clubs/bag in most RV's? Today's Drivers are longer (44-45")...(now I'll sit back and take the hits!) Thx in advance though! FWIW, the RV-8 can also handle one set of clubs. The upper rear baggage compartment bulkhead is removable with six screws. Build a simple support aft of that bulkhead to cradle the clubs between the top longerons and "voila"! I would plan on putting the CG a bit further forward to accommodate this setup, but it is definitely do-able. Check out Dan Checkoway's site for typical CG locations for differing configurations of the RV-8. Subject: Door Raising GooseCreek Airport
Well, after a bit of work, the framework for my hangar door is ready to be raised to the hinge bar (See photo). The framework is 40' at the bottom and 30' at the top and weighs (est) approx 350-400lbs. I just need to stand it on its bottom side (side nearest front in photo) - so only need to tilt the framework up 90 deg from its position on the floor. Place a few clamps to hold things in place and I can proceed from that point. I believe either 3 old cougars and/or 6 young studs could do the job. So if you fit into either category and have the time and interest, I could use your assistance. I estimate it should not take over 30 minutes (actually more like 15 seconds) to raise the framework. I am hoping for this Saturday AM probably around 1030 or whenever sufficient bodies show up. Thanks in advance Ed Ed Anderson Rv-6A N494BW Rotary Powered Matthews, NC eanderson@carolina.rr.com http://members.cox.net/rogersda/rotary/configs.htm#N494BW

Hi Steve, Finished with the ladder yesterday, so your ladder is yours to take home - thanks, it came in handy putting in those last bolts attaching front sheets to arch. Won't need a tall one on Saturday, I think with the one I have and Bill's short one it will be enough Ed ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve Glasgow To: rvsoutheast-list@matronics.com Sent: Wednesday, July 26, 2006 5:37 PM Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: Door Raising GooseCreek Airport How about an old geezer. Subject: Trip to Oshkosh
Just got back from Oshkosh ... lots of panel goodies available ... my favorite was TruTrak's new EFIS ... they have a DG that lays horizontal (3D) in the middle of the display as if you were looking at your GPS tracking up ... real cool !!! Vans had his new LSA ... the RV-12 on display. Cessna unveiled theirs ... Had dinner last night with Larry Bowen and Jack. Larry Bowen is going to be a repeat offender ... bought the tail kit for a -7 !!! James, Ken, and I got to fly in the RV Formation flight at Oshkosh yesterday ... a milestone for me !! We had a 16 ship flight with about 5 -6 passes over the crowd ... Our lead told us on one of the passes to smile ... 100,000 people are waving at you !!! The place was filled with RVs !!! Over 4700 now flying ... RVs were everywhere. Some really gorgeous ones too !! Had a chance to talk with Van as he was out looking at planes on the line. He said the -3 is still his favorite RV. Said the -7 is the number 1 kit. Nice trip ... except for the electronic ignition problems I had on the way home today. Spent 4 hours in Cincinnati trying to find the problem. Borrowed a part from a friend there and finished the trip home. Have to overnight his part back to him tomorrowl. Len
