A little after 1030 today, the obstacle blocking my aircraft that I have mentioned (my hangar door frame ) in previous e mails was raised and attached to the support structure. Thanks to a number of folks (in no particular order) goes to Cappy (who of course had to fly over {:>)), Dale, Bill, Radomir, Tad, Mike, and my son-in-law Bryan . These guys are the ones to call when you need a 400 lb door raised. Thanks Guys. You made it seem easy - if I forgot anyone, I apologize and will attribute it to my excited mind. Just a bunch more of screws to further secure the door frame to the hinged header and a 6" drill bit to drill through 3 2x4s and that part will be finished. Next phase is getting the hydraulic system ordered and installed and the final phase will be to cover the door with fiberglass roofing. Again my thanks to all. You are welcome old man. I flew because did not want to drive the dirt road in my clean pick-um-truck. Besides, I actually flew 1.6 hours today. Of course the gas bill at RUQ was a pain as a result. We boarded after breakfast around 9am. After waiting for 2 planes in a large row to get their IFR departure clearance for a beautiful VFR day. ehem I stopped at 4I7 for a double garlic cheese burger and onion rings. Talk about a gut bomb. It was great though. The fuel there was 3.47 gal. I climbed out from there to 7500 and found no favor in the wind. So I decended back to 4500 where it got rough so we went up to 9500 and finally the last 150kt miles we found favorable wind. We did get 195kts but seems you found a better wind. All in all a great trip and the last evening was dry in the tent. I did not see you at the BBQ. I made TJ walk the better part of a mile looking for it. Finally we hiked back to the plane for the directions. Yeah I know, but I did ask for directions along the way. With coordinates in hand 15min later we were drinking a beer with 2 Aussies who thought our beer was for sissies and it was rumored to contain alcohol. Then off to watch Air Force One on the big screen. I am buying an attitude indicator (electric) I will keep for backup and then a NAV indicator and begin IFR training after I have my new toys.
