    Subject: RV-8 VS rivet length
--> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Carter Wright" <cartaire@hotmail.com> Hi all: Thanks to Larry, I was able to finish my HS on Sunday. Now I'm completing the VS, and have a question about the rivet call-out on the plans. The rear spar is blind riveted to the middle rib (VS-707) with 3 LP-4 rivets. Two of these go through rib/spar/spar doubler (thick) and one just goes through rib/spar (thin). Is it OK to use the same length pulled rivet for these two different material thickness? Thanks, Carter

Carter: In my experience, yes. They can clinch down really short for work with thin stock. As long as they are long enough for the thickest work you're doing, you're okay. Keep in touch :-) -Stormy On 8/9/06, Carter Wright <cartaire@hotmail.com> wrote: > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Carter Wright" < > cartaire@hotmail.com> > > Hi all: > > Thanks to Larry, I was able to finish my HS on Sunday. --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: "Dale Ensing" <densing@carolina.rr.com> Carter, Van's uses two different length LP-4 rivets. -3 which has a 3/16" length has a grip of .031 - .062 -4 which has a 1/4" length has grip range of.063-.125. Grip range being the total thickness of the pieces being riveted togather. Dale Ensing > The rear spar is blind riveted to the middle rib (VS-707) with 3 LP-4 > rivets.
