Typically there is the RV-Fly-in at Lakeland around mid-January. That would
be a nice time to consider as one could stop by the fly-in enroute.

Wayne & Cindy Williams (RV-8A), Donna & I, along with a couple from Sarasota
flew down to Key West for a long weekend a couple of years ago. Wonderful
flight over the water from Sarasota ... something gorgeous about several RVs
at 8000' around puffy white clouds with blue/green water below !!!

We stayed within walking distance of Duval street .... quick walk and you
were in the middle of everything. Lots of these type of inns down there.

      Listers,

Thanks for the feedback on drilling hardened steel. Lessons learned:

Use cobalt bits. (actually, I started with them but I thought another type
might work better and resorted to the Lowes "titanium" bits ..... bad choice)

Drill slowly. I was using an air drill and going much too fast.
Lubricate. I was using some of my air tool oil, but this was not very good
      at such high drill speeds.
        Thanks for your help.

        Craig

Typically there is the RV-Fly-in at Lakeland around mid-January. That
would be a nice time to consider as one could stop by the fly-in
      enroute.

          As a warm-up to a longer trip or 2 next spring/fall, I
suggest a trip to Key West for a long wkend in
January. Much to do and no surly aviation bureaucrats
like I've encountered in Bahamas. If interested, pls.
advise and I can start researching places to stay.

Come January, I hope to be in the middle of IFR upgrades for me and
the plane. Put me down as somewhat interested but hoping to be
      unavailable for the trip ;-)

Besides, that's when kiddie docs are busy paying for the slack summer months.

          Reno Red.
