Hi All,
I talked to some of you earlier about doing a Fall Color Tour this week.
Stripes and Cappy said they were in. Others are certainly invited.
Several of us were up on the Blue Ridge on Saturday for the Jackson
County "Save the Airport" Fly-In and the fall colors were spectacular.
The leaves should be at peak for a few more days. So, here's the plan:
On Wednesday, October 25, meet at Rowan County (KRUQ) at 0930, fuel up
for $3.30/gallon and depart about 1000 at five minute intervals. First
waypoint is Ashe County (KGEV at 1030) then to Avery County (7A8 at
1046) then to over Blowing Rock to Mountain Air (2NC0 at 1053) then to
Mount Mitchell (N38 52.00 W 82 18.00 at 1055) then to Rutherford Co
(KFQD at 1104), land at Rutherford and have lunch. Takeoff about 1230
to Statesville (KSVH at 1248) then to starting point at Rowan County
(KRUQ at 1255). Route times are based upon 160 KTAS and typical winds
for this season. Total flying time is 1+30, fuel required is 13.1
gallons (your mileage may vary).
I will have Flight Logs with GPS data and current winds for everyone at
RUQ. I provided the enroute times in this email so anyone can drop into
the route at any point if you don't want to start from Rowan County.
We'll all gather at Rutherford for lunch, so bring an appetite. Weather
is forecast to be severe clear, about 45 degrees at 1000 at RUQ and 55
degrees at FQD at 1200, so dress accordingly.
Why Wednesday? Winds on Tuesday are breezy and weather and colors tend
to fade towards the end of the week. Hope to see a bunch of you there.
Email a reply so we have some idea of how many will attend. No
reservations required. The air is free and there is no reserved seating
at lunch.
Fly Safe,
Ron Schreck

Tried to respond to Ron's posting about the fall color trip, and it
wouldn't let me, due to attached file "Izzy" which I assume is the
little avitar he's affixed below his signature. Maybe just a problem
with the way Mozilla Firefox does quoting for replies, but I thought
I'd bring it to the attention of the list members. I'll try again
without including Ron's original message to see if it goes through.

Here's another nice picture from last weekend. I stopped at Jack Seaford's
place last Saturday to see how his 9 is progressing. He caught me as I was
about to touch down on the lawn.... :)
