I'm doing all the less expensive stuff first, while the manufacturers
perfect the sexy glass panel avionics I'm going to buy when the bugs

If these pictures go through okay, I will try to post some trip pix

Well, ABF brought my RV-8 SB wings on Friday!!
I think someone needs more practice driving their fork lift...
Actually, through the hole in the crate I can't see any injured parts.
I
still haven't had a chance to open/inventory yet
updates to follow after I pry them open,

Guys (and Gals?),
I have been lurking on this list for the last few months.seems like a
happy, active bunch! Need to introduce myself and see if youll allow
another FNG into the group I just got my Rocket flying in Memphis, and am
looking for others to fly with, and places to go. We have a pretty active
group of local RV and Rocket owners, but would like to broaden our horizons.
The formation practice piqued my interest I sure would be like to get
involved in some formation flying with yall. My wife is from Anderson, SC
so will be traveling there occasionally, I know. For the past 7 years I
owned a Yak (actually a Nanchang CJ-6A) and have been active in the RedStar
Pilots Association as a FAST Formation checkpilot. (Anybody interested in
getting FAST rated, I would be happy to help out) With a heads up, Id
sure do my best to make it to another practice session like this.

Carter, I can imagine your disappointment at seeing that. Looks like
the staples narrowly missed the wingskins, too, if they did. You
can't take chances with spar integrity and don't want to put up with
cosmetic damage to parts that show, either, so I hope that this is a
case of "Gee, that'll buff out." But if not, don't equivocate about
getting it made right. It will all be worth it in the end. Don't
settle for a compromise on this one.

Bottom line, don't do anything until you call:
Mike Travers
Travers & Associates
800-888-9859
and the rest of the story: below is a copy and paste from an email I wrote early
last year after completing my plane. It was a nightmare/funny experience so
I'll share it again....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soapbox on so don't read if you don't want to hear my rants but I think in hindsight
this was quite an eyeopener and funny.
I got "binded" yesterday.
Hull Value $50,000.00
Deductibles Not in Motion: $100.00 In Motion: $100.00
Liability Limits
$1,000,000.00 Combined Single Limit Bodily Injury and Property Damage Subject
To
$100,000.00 Each Passenger
Medical Payments $1,000.00 Each Person
Frank must complete 8 solo hours prior to passengers.
TOTAL ANNUAL PREMIUM $1,824.00
No, I didn't find any CFI with their own airplane around here that had enough teaching
hours in the airplane for the insurance companyiesto recognize the time.
Quite a catch 22. In fact I was told some pretty down right dumb things
by underwriters via brokers like
1) you won't be covered for the first 10 hours and it will cost you over $4K.
I think that one was Avemco ( the direct underwriter)
2) you must get 10 dual hours in the same make and model (despite the fact that
no one gives instruction out of an RV8 or 8A for that matter and no matter how
differently you try to explain that to these supposedly market savvy professionals
they didn't get it)
3) you must get someone else to fly off the first 10 hours,
4) you must get 5 hours of dual in your own plane (what part of phase one, must
fly alone, etc are these folks not getting?)
5) no one is allowed to fly with you for the first 8 hours (yes, again, I stated
clearly more than once that the airplane hasn't flown yet and I was trying to
get the insurance crap lined up...)
Oh yeah, AIG supposedly passed on me completely according to one broker stating
they took a major hit with the Gulf Coast storms last year and were going into
ultra conservative mode. Holy Cow, what an industry....
I could go on but I'm trying to put the horror behind me.
My suggestion is keep calling different brokers until you find one that tells you
what you can do to get your premium down below $2K. I had different brokers
quote me premiums from the same underwriters that varied by 100% !
In the end Travers & Assoc out of St Louis got me a deal with AIG for less than
half of what another broker wanted to charge me via AIG and without the extra
hours of fight instruction. Well, come to think of it, even they said that initially
they wanted some sort of checkout in MY PLANE then I reminded them that
the plane was in phase1 and I already had a log book entry stating that I had
5.6 hours of "official" RV transition training and an endorsement in the log
book stating I was good to go WRT RVs! I even said I'd copy the friggin' thing
and fax it to whoever wanted to see it at AIG and let them call Jan Bussell.
Jesus. So a phone call back and forth between the broker and AIG resulted
in the 8 hours solo before any passengers. Uh, OK. I think I'll give them 25
hours just to be safe? ;-)

Bert, I used to have AVEMCO but, they kept raising my rates despite the
fact I kept adding hours until I finally couldn't stand it anymore. I
had hull and Liability. I now am insure through SkySmith using AIG and
the rates fell to 1/2 of AVEMCO for the same coverage. Have not
(fortunately) had a claim against them - so don't how they are in that
department.

After all those, I'm sure you're curious to see the puppies, so I
tossed in a couple of those, too, at the end.
Have a great week, everybody.
p.s. Don't ask me HOW Google knows Cappy's IQ; I was as surprised as

Bill -
OK. Your plan sound different than Randy's.
Plan A is to fly direct to Cedar Key and stay Friday & Sat nights, commuting
to LAL Saturday. Then home Sunday.
Plan B is to fly direct to LAL and stay the night there, then Sat night at
Cedar Key, then home.
Should we try to choose a single plan or doesn't it matter? Plan A sounds
less complicated with only one room to arrange.
RE: Oil. I just tapped into the first case of three...I guess I need to fly
more. If you anticipate getting a shipment once per year or less often,
I'll take another case, otherwise I think I'll hold off. I think Cappy is
running the same now too, so he might want to participate.
I still owe you $7.
