This is a pic from last week. My live-in airplane shop will be dried
      in by this weekend hopefully!
I should be able to start implementing the great shop suggestions

      I still haven't decided between the 7 & 8 yet!!!!
Don't want to start a flame war, but any comments from the "gallerie
      l'peanuts"?
I like the centerline positioning of the 8 (and the width) but the
tip-up 7 visibility is really appealing too.

I'm not sure I have the cojones to build 2 of them like Larry, so I'm
hoping to pick the right one first.

I'm leaning toward the 7 right now, because I don't think Greta will
like sitting in the back no matter what she says now!

I'm trying to close up a bottom wing skin this weekend( one skin already complete).
This is a two person job and the wife already said no. If you have nothing
to do for a half day give me call...ha..ha....please. The beer is free and if
you fly, you will have to settle for lunch. If you fly use Atlantic Aero @
      GSO, I'll pick you up.

      Thanks,

You are right about that! Most wives love the 6/7,
but if you are mostly solo, the 8 can't be beaten. We
all believe we have the Right choice...except maybe
Larry, can't figure him out. Maybe there's a little
wifely voice involved somewhere, tho I thnk Pam's good
      w/ the 8.

I love flying solo almost as much as I love flying other people around.
Maybe I need some perspective (hint, hint) and I definitely need to
      try on the 7 cockpit.

Len was kind enough to allow me & greta to sit in his 8, and she
seemed ok with it and I liked it very much.

Maybe we'll get a chance to sit in a 6 or 7 and make airplane noises
      sometime soon.

the 8 will be more comfortable, since you can build it
to your specs. the 7 is tight. i fly with Tad
Sargent occasionally and we are both 160-170 and its
cramped. the headroom is disappointing to me w/
side-by-side. my headset hits the canopy...

      Where are you located?

I can't make Saturday but I was curious.

BTW, I hope to spend some time on Saturday working on my -9. It would
be nice to fly it before the end of the year. ;)

I'm trying to close up a bottom wing skin this weekend( one skin already
complete). This is a two person job and the wife already said no. If you
have nothing to do for a half day give me call...ha..ha....please. The
beer is free and if you fly, you will have to settle for lunch. If you
fly use Atlantic Aero @ GSO, I'll pick you up.

      Thanks,

      Greensboro.

Larry B helped on the other wing but unavaiable this weekend due to honey-dos.
Both of us are building -7's. I am trying to complete the wings and move them
out of the garage. Not much room.

      Thanks,

An opposing view to Bill's......When I fly solo I really appreciate the
space in the seat next to me for charts or whatever. Not behind me where it
is of no use to me while flying.

My wife has no license, but about 50 hrs logged. No way she would be satisfied
in the back. That's one reason I went with the -7. I also like the empty seat
room next to me rather than behind.

The bottom line: you will be happy which ever way you go!

      Good luck.
      David

      Hi Robbie,

      I've flown a -4 off & on since '94, but I'm building a -7. For me, SxS
won out because for me, giving rides is much more fun in a SxS plane
(Swift time prior to the -4 for comparison). Also, x-country cockpit
duties a bit more convenient due to the room in a SxS. CG a bit easier
      to manage, etc.

Having said that, both the other builders who live on our strip built -8's.

Neither will handle like the -4, though. :-(

      Good luck with your decision....

One other BIG advantage to the SbS RV is the amount of panel room it
      gives you.

It is kind of lost on my VFR ship but for those who are building an Air
Bus, this is a good thing.

That thought has occurred to me also... assuming the seats in the 7
can be built, um, robustly, um, it may be more comfortable solo...
      I'm guessing not, though.

Hee-hee. I'll let you keep guessing, 'cause I can't figure me out either.
Building's fun...and there are no wrong answers if it says Van's Aircraft on
the crate. Tandem vs SBS each have subtle advantages over the other, but
      either is a great choice.

Bill and Charlie, Both excellent points... boy would a 3 or 4 be
fun... but they don't make a shoehorn big enough... I think a 4 would
be tight for my wife even.

I find a bonanza/baron front seat about as small as I'd want. Never
even tried a mooney, and there's no possible way for me to fold up
enough to fit in a Cessna 150/152 and get the door closed.

      Oh well.
