Good info, Cappy...thanks! We really do try to make our event more interesting each year and one of the things I try to do is to find out what others have found successful and attractive in their own fly-ins. The "Race to Ridgeland" will benefit (I think??!!) from some of the new things we're implementing. The website is in the process of being updated, but in general the changes from last year are: 1. The "Race" will now be a round robin, beginning and ending at Ridgeland. The start is "on the fly", you don't have to land in Ridgeland first in order to start the race. 2. The course will be shorter than before, but James C. has suggested I shorten it even more. I'm definitely looking at that. 3. Additional trophies: 1st through 5th in the handicapped race and trophies also for fastest overall certified and experimental aircraft. 4. Church group(s) will do the food and refreshments rather than a commercial seller. 5. County EMS, police, and fire units on-station throughout the day. 6. Spot landing contest as before. 7. Hoping to support a "model-specific" event also. Current plan is for a Swift fly-in. 8. Civil Air Patrol cadets will help stage the event and will have a recruiting booth as well. 9. Local model aircraft group will sponsor a booth. 10. Aircraft rides for selected local officials and sponsors 11. Local financial sponsorship in addition to sponsorship by the Jasper County Aeronautical Commission in order to provide funds for fuel "top off" of selected attendees (such as formation teams...hint, hint...) I hope to make RV's the "model specific" aircraft for the fly-in very soon, perhaps in 2009? Anyway, thanks again for the info----very helpful. Lee...
