Hi Stormy, thanks for no "Storms" on Saturday. It was a pretty flight
both ways through and around some beautiful clouds. It was good to see
everyone and thanks to you, Miriam and family for being so generous in
hosting the "Hop A Long Fly in"!

Everything is abuzz here at 12VA, getting ready for the gang. Weather
forecast contains the threat of TSTMs later in the afternoon, but viz
and ceilings and winds all look good. The TAFs for RIC and GSO are
benign, the TAF for ROA mentions afternoon thunderstorms. Everyone will
have to make their own judgment calls there.
I regret that the river is too low for tubing this time. The hot tub
is ready to go, though, as are the horseshoe pits and billiard table.
We're looking forward to arrivals between 10 and 12 and feeding the
gang some delicious BBQ chicken (which I am getting started on in a
minute) soon thereafter. I'll try to have someone listening on 122.85
for Multicomm, but basically you are own your own in the pattern (LH
traffic for 32 at 2000 MSL).

Bob,
The LED
<http://picasaweb.google.com/RobertLMartinIII/62808StormyS/photo#52171326925
80536690> position and strobe lights I have on the -9 can be purchased from
Skybright <http://www.airplanegear.com/skybright.htm> . At the time they
sold the set w/o the white tail light but the circuit board was the same as
they now sell. I simply cut the unused portion of the circuit board off
using a band saw. Unfortunately they didn't include the cover shown on the
complete unit.
If I were to do it today, I would still buy the unit, cut the white LED's
off, and cut the plastic cover to fit just over the position lights and
install them the same way as you see in that picture you took.
The other question I had was regarding my lettering, which were done using
the DecalPro
<http://www.pulsarprofx.com/decalpro/Vertical/1_MENU/1a_Home/Aircraft/Aircra
ft.html> system. I really like the results as I have a textured panel and
plastic labels won't stick to it. The only downside is, there is a steep
learning curve to the system.

Larry Burruss and I flew our RV-6's (Veggie Tale Squadron) to Stormy's
wonderful 2008 fly-in BBQ.
It was good to see old friends and make new one. Especially to meet people I
only had read about
or emailed. I think we were the last to arrive and almost the last to
leave, by air.
Stormy even took his 6A out and flew overhead with some nice rolls added for
fun!
I tried to take some pictures although I missed all the inside goodies and
the actually GRILLING.
I'm pretty sure Stormy hired a staff to do the cooking as it was wonderful
and I never saw Stormy
around the grill as he was the perfect host! Thanks Stormy!!
Looking forward to next year!
Enjoy the Picasa link to the pictures.

Bob,
I hear you, we left and as we were taxing out, I mentioned to Nora that I
didn't introduce myself. Sorry about that.
I've been to MTV twice in the last year. Our new favorite place to eat is
5NC3 as they have a VERY good BBQ restaurant right on the field. The owner
of the field also owns the restaurant and is the president of the local EAA
chapter (He has a full scale SE5 that was used in The Aviator). Needless to
say, you don't need permission to land there, just drop in for some of the
best BBQ around. If the Veggie Tail Squadron ever feels like some BBQ, let
us know.
Jacque had a great time. That was her first ever ride in a small plane and
had the chance to ride up in Randy's -7 and back in Reno's -8. Talk about a
LOT of pictures, it was tough selecting just a few.
Thanks for the complements on the -9, we have really enjoyed it (160+ hours
in 11 months). One of these days it might actually get painted. It doesn't
do too bad on 135 HP, even as hot as it was on Saturday. Too bad you
weren't there for my helicopter landing. Bill or Bill can explain. That
long wing just performs so well!
