The radio has since stopped responding to turning the outer ring (MHz) selector, and needs repair. I'm not afraid to try this repair myself if I can get my hands on a replacement concentric optical shaft encoder that is a proper fit, nor opposed to sending the radio off for repair by an avionics shop is I can find a reasonable quote. Menawhile, looking for a loaner radio while I get the repairs done, or a good deal on a replacement A200 if I decide to swap first / repair later. Any help out there? Thanks, Bill B/ Stormy RV-6A ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 02:47:07 PM PST US From: bert murillo Subject: RE: RVSouthEast-List: Icom A200 Bill: I know you are a hot pilot, but in all my years of lying, you are the first, to tell some one, you do not need a radio...unbelievable''' I do not puch holes in the sky, around the air port.... Easily unsoldered, removed, opened the switch body. Lots of teenie weenie innards. Jeweler's loupes were brought out. Shaft is brass - was able to silver solder the thing back together and re-assemble the switch (if you saw it you would not beleive it was possible to do in a home workshop). Put the radio back in the panel and it worked! (Past tense). Naturally, the solder joint failed after the first few minutes of playing with it, so now it's back to broken status. I'd rather discover this on the ground than on a X/C. I kinda thought it would happen - solder is not a structural material, really. Too bad Icom won't sell me the $25 part (Alps 3-gang rotary encoder) and I cannot find it on the 'net. The avionics monopoly wins this round. Well, I now have two hours of my time in this thing, about enough to buy a new one, so I'm done messing around, but it was a fun exercise. I might open a watch repair business on the side, as I discovered talents and patience I didn't know I had. -Bill On Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 5:07 PM, Bill Repucci wrote: > I'm not really sure why you need a radio.
