I am a member of The Wings of Carolina Flying club in Sanford, NC (TTA) for
about a year and I highly recommend the club. It's a real active club that is

very professionally run with great instructors at a fantastic facility: 6500'

runway, AWOS and ILS at a non-controlled field.

If you're looking to rent complex aircraft, the club has two IFR Mooney M20J's.

The rates vary according to fuel cost, but the last rate I have for the Mooney

was $139.06, wet while the instruction was $28 for advanced training. They also

have a simulator elite that may help you control some costs, but I'm guessing on

that. Also RDU and Fayetteville are very close by - relatively speaking - so
you needn't go far to get into controlled airspace. The club has monthly fees

and requires posting a deposit if you want to rent that is specific to the type

      of plane you rent (C152, C172, PA28 or M20J).

Good luck to you with whichever route you take,
      Joe

Len, another approach is to call Larry Morris @ 704-786-6880. He is a
designated examiner out of Concord and would let you know what he would
requre for the rating with your experience. Getting a commercial rating
for your purpose is a little different from someone who needs the rating
for a paying flying job. You need 10 hrs of dual in a complex plane
plus take the checkride in the same. You can rent the C172 RG Cutlass
at Concord through www.flycarolina.com for $93.00 an hr plus fuel and
instructor. Contact for that is Aubrey @ 704-788-9333. He runs the
      Concord branch.

I am a member of The Wings of Carolina Flying club in Sanford, NC (TTA)
      for

about a year and I highly recommend the club. It's a real active club
      that is

very professionally run with great instructors at a fantastic facility:
      6500'

runway, AWOS and ILS at a non-controlled field.

If you're looking to rent complex aircraft, the club has two IFR Mooney
      M20J's.

The rates vary according to fuel cost, but the last rate I have for the
      Mooney

was $139.06, wet while the instruction was $28 for advanced training.
      They also

have a simulator elite that may help you control some costs, but I'm
      guessing on

that. Also RDU and Fayetteville are very close by - relatively speaking
      - so

you needn't go far to get into controlled airspace. The club has
      monthly fees

and requires posting a deposit if you want to rent that is specific to
      the type

      of plane you rent (C152, C172, PA28 or M20J).

Good luck to you with whichever route you take,

      Joe

That will depend on the status of our house guests (honeymooners) as well as
the runway. Miriam is always up for BBQ at Carthage. And I need the excuse
to fly some before February... 50 kt winds are blowing tree branches all
      over the runway.

I can't get my mind around how a pilot who can hold station on lead, perform
cross-unders, eschelon turns, pitch-outs and re-joins could not be able to
perform any commercial-test maneuvers with ease, but maybe. I feel better
knowing they are "doing it for the children." The sky would just plain fall
in without the FAA, wouldn't it.

Maybe I'm ranting because Lowe's sold out of the close-out-sale Pergo
flooring I wanted for my game room before I bought enough. Any excuse for a
      rant will do.

Ah, now I get it. Fuel, hotel rooms, show girls - they're on to you, Len.
Time to re-negotiate the airshow contracts until you get that commercial
rating. Don't forget to report that stuff on your form 1040 ;-)

Len, another approach is to call Larry Morris @
704-786-6880.?He is a designated examiner out of Concord and would let you
know what he would requre for the rating with your experience.? Getting a
commercial rating for your purpose is a little different from someone who needs

the rating for a paying flying job.? You need 10 hrs of dual in a complex
plane plus take the checkride in the same.? You can rent the C172 RG
Cutlass at Concord through www.flycarolina.com for $93.00 an hr plus
fuel and instructor.? Contact for that is Aubrey @ 704-788-9333.? He
      runs the Concord branch.?

      Joe

Meaning something greater than 200 HP, like a Stearman, C-182, etc.? Some
of the Moonies and Arrows have 200 HP engines so they will only work for the
