After eight hours of non-stop hammering, bounding, and cussing we
finally
left Triple Tree Aerodrome without the airplane. One of the small bolts
on
the lower right side of the right wing just didn=92t want to cooperate.
Lack
of space, tapered fuselage, etc. didn=92t help the situation.
Pat, the owner of the place was kind enough to give the cadre of people
who
came to help rides in his BT-13. (Much thanks to Pat!)
Thanks to all of you who showed up to help. I really appreciate the
time,
assistance, and encouragement.
If any of you have any tips on how to get that one offending bolt out of
an
RV-7 or -9, please let me know.
Bill
PS. I=92m still shaking my head at the insurance guy=92s estimate of 10
hours
to get the thing ready to put on a trailer.

Probably impractical given the situation, but I always found the wing bolts
went in an out very easily and without any heavy pounding - heck, no
pounding at all. I use my rivet gun and the gentle but persistent vibration
would work the bolt right out without galling or any adverse effects. A
muffler removal tool might work, but you can't control the degree of impact
that you can with a rivet gun, so I would be hesitant to use one.

Are there other bolts left in the spar? If not, reinstalling the bigger
ones may take some load off the smaller one. Put a couple of the bigger
ones back in (Ace hardware grade, not the real ones), knock out the little
one, then remove the big ones.....
Maybe....

Bill, did the bolt bend? If so, it will need to be cut off flush with
the
spar carry-through before it can be driven with a punch and a rivet gun.
If
it has not bent, do what Larry suggests, and use penetrating oil for the
stubborn bolt.
