I have a RV8A with an O-360 and fixed pitch Sensenich prop. -I am conside ring changing to a constant speed prop, but I am concerned about the added weight on the nose of the plane. -My plane is on the nose heavy side as i t is, and I would not like to make it any more so. -I am looking at the W hirlwind RV series. -Does anyone out there know how the installed weight of a Whirlwind prop compares to the fixed pitch Sensenich? -The Whirlwind prop and spinner weigh in at about 38# according to the folks at Whirlwind . -I was hoping to find out the weight of the Sensenich installation with out pulling my prop. Thanks, Craig GallenbachEastover, NCRV8-A, N184CG 195hrs

I didn't see the weight on vans website. Did you check your prop paperwork? I have a whirlwind for my RV7 project. I'm looking forward to flying with it. Whirlwind is much lighter and very fast.- Don't know why your wt is so no se-heavy, but most CS Hartzells, such as mine on the 8 are fine...I know a friend who has a Whirlwind & is so light, he has to run a full smoke oil tk up front when carrying a passenger.=0A=0A=0AFrom: Craig Gallenbach <craigt xtx@yahoo.com>=0ATo: RV list <rv-list@matronics.com>; rv8-list@matronics.co m; SERV <rvsoutheast-list@matronics.com>=0ASent: Saturday, June 25, 2011 10 :01 AM=0ASubject: RVSouthEast-List: Fixed pitch to constant speed=0A=0AI ha ve a RV8A with an O-360 and fixed pitch Sensenich prop. -I am considering changing to a constant speed prop, but I am concerned about the added weig ht on the nose of the plane. -My plane is on the nose heavy side as it is , and I would not like to make it any more so. -I am looking at the Whirl wind RV series. -Does anyone out there know how the installed weight of a Whirlwind prop compares to the fixed pitch Sensenich? -The Whirlwind pro p and spinner weigh in at about 38# according to the folks at Whirlwind. -I was hoping to find out the weight of the Sensenich installation withou t pulling my prop. =0AThanks,=0ACraig Gallenbach=0AEastover, NC=0ARV8-A, N1 ========================

Craig, The first thing you need to determine is if your O-360 is suitable for a CS prop. A number of them were built with solid cranks. As for the weight of your Sensenich prop, Aircraft Spruce lists the "Approximate Shipping Weight 40 LBS". Your W&B issue may be a result of the location of the battery. Some -8 builders put them behind the passenger and others put it on the firewall. Best of luck with your switch.
