--> Seaplane-List message posted by: Kurt Kingston <Kurt@cfirepro.com> Charlie, Thanks for taking the time to make a reply and post your information. It sounds like you have a very nice setup. I have been thinking about getting something a little faster and was always impressed by the Zenith construction. Have a good day, Kurt K. I have a Rotax 618, two cycle 74 hp. Cruise is in the 65-70 range about 10 mph less than on wheels only. If I were doing it again I would go with the 1150 floats for better performance on water and the 912S for more hp. If you have any other questions let me know. Charlie S

--> Seaplane-List message posted by: Kurt Kingston <Kurt@cfirepro.com> Chip, I REALLY like the looks and performance of the 601XL as a floatplane and looked very hard at it, but in my mind I'm too afraid of the canopy connection and what I see as emergency egress issues. If only it was a split canopy and you could land/takeoff with it partially open! Looks good on your floats too. Thanks for the suggestion though, Kurt K. --> Seaplane-List message posted by: "Chip W Erwin" <aircraft@czaw.cz> Actually, you can take off and land with it unlatched. I know this because I did it. Don't tell anyone it was by accident! And we can make an open-cockpit windscreen as well. Regards, CHIP Chip W. Erwin CZECH AIRCRAFT WORKS, S.R.O. --> Seaplane-List message posted by: Kurt Kingston <Kurt@cfirepro.com> Thanks Chip. I think the one I'd want is the explosively operated frangible escape system that cuts an exit through the canopy directly over the head of each occupant using shielded mild detonating cord :-) Oh, and a roll bar too. Maybe it will be a new option? Thanks again, Kurt K.
